  • Tassie to Perth and back - 5 weeks with the Wife and Kids

    Hi All,

Only got 4 weeks left before heading out west. Myself, SWMBO and our 3 girls (almost 9, 7 and 3) for our first big outback adventure. We will be away for the best part of 5 weeks, with the tent and a very loaded up Prado, so will be an interesting experience. Not going hardcore remote offroad for this adventure, as we are testing out the set-up, and travelling solo, but hopefully into the future, there will be more trips to follow.

We are planning on heading up the Stuart Highway, via Coober Pedy, then on to Uluru and the Olgas before crossing the Great Central Road, down to Esperence, and follow the Coast up to Perth for a few nights and then down to Mandurah for a week or so to unwind (timeshare accommodation) before heading back across the Nullabor, via Adelaide for a couple of days, and finally back home to Tassie. If anyone is about and keen to meet a fellow PP member, let me know.

Also, any advice on must see sights along the way is appreciated. Lucky Bay (Cape Le Grand NP) is on our hit list, as is Bremmer Bay and the Valley of the Giants. Other than that, we will see what comes up as we drive along.

Will post some piccies when we get back.

Wow what a massive trip in 5 weeks! Looking forward to the photos and progress you make. My wife wants to leave sunny coast, head to Uluru, Alice, Darwin then home in 4-5 weeks. Can't let her see this thread! Anyway, best of luck and hope you all have a ball.

Will see how we're going for time. Planning on stopping in our around Mildura our first night before heading to Port Pirie or there about, so its a possibility if you aren't to far away.

The Great Central Road is part of what its known as Australia's longest shortcut and we are only doing the western half. The eastern half runs from Winton in central Queensland through to Alice Springs, so you could do this in 5 weeks...

Need to see more of the "big island" other than Melbourne and Sydney airports....and hotels...

Hoping this will be the taster, and then we can do some more adventurous treks into the future. So much to see in or own rather large back yard. I am lucky my SWMBO is keen on the whole camping idea, at least for now...
