We left Broome after a few days and were heading up to Cape Leveque to camp but some of the older travellers in the park told us that Middle lagoon was better so we headed there instead. The track there was typical corrugated but the Prado with aired down tyres to soak up the bumps performed well. We spent 5 days at Middle Lagoon and got a top spot camping there for a number of days. Everyday we went fishing and in the afternoon out 4WDing. It was here that I decided to buy a Cub Camper and retire from work for a number of years and just tour.

And finally the sunset that we watched at the end of every day at Middle lagoon.

After the 5 days at middle Lagoon Helga and me had to head back to Darwin and Juey and Wayne continued their trip down the west coast.
I have put a down payment on a Cub Camper when we got back and I'm sizing up when to leave work to go touring permantly..

      Cheers Derek

On this trip had a look at a few that fellow travellers had and when we got back to Darwin got on the internet for reviews etc.
Decided to get the Cub Brumby with swing away arm and tinnie carrier. The swag campers were too pricey for my liking.

Ok.... we rang into a few people who had the Cub Daintree LS model and that looked like it would more suit our needs.... but it's on the wishlist until we can afford it

Looks like an awesome trip Derek. Thank for all the inspiration to get out more.

We finally got word that we are moving up to Katherine in Jan, so I can wait to explore the top end. The Kimberleys are definitely on the list. We also told the guys we bought our Kimberley Kamper off recently that we'll send the some photo's of it in the Kimberleys.

Great photos and trip report, thanks so much for sharing.

I'm headed up that way in 2015, towing a semi off road caravan these days BUT also have our camping kit with us so we are planning on leaving the van in Kununurra and doing El Questro, then returning, collecting and heading to Fitzroy Crossing, leave the van for about 2 weeks and head north to Mitchell Falls and all points in between.

Plan on leaving end of April, arriving to do the trip north about 8th June......probably me and 2000 others no doubt!!

The amount of people on the road these days, in caravans and camping (trailers and otherwise) is incredible and it seems to get bigger and bigger each year.

Now towing a semi offroad Lotus Freelander 18.6 Van, with all the bells and whistles.

Fantastic pictures, regret not doing the Gibb when I worked up there in the early 90's. Would love to take the Prado up there, but the wife doesn't like the thought of the 3 day drive just to get to the start point at Broome.
Reckon I might have to fly her and the youngest up and drive with the oldest or just do it by myself one day.
I like the idea of just retiring and travelling for few years as we'll.
Just got back from a flying trip to Darwin and Jabiru for work, beautiful time of the year to be up there and so relaxed.
                        Kev,

I'm planning a trip to the Kimberley's in June 2015.
                          The rough plan so after is;

#Leave Brisbane 21th May arrive Kununurra 28-29th May
                          #Wife flies in 30th May
#Take a few days to travel on the bitumen up to Broome
                          #Few days in Broome
                          # Leave Broome 7th June and travel the Gibb River rd
                          # Arrive Kununurra on 28th June
                          #Wife flies home 29th June
                          # I take 2-3 weeks to drive back to Brisbane spending time in NT

Will 3 weeks be longer enough to see the main attractions on the Gibb?
I would like longer but the wife can only get 4 weeks leave, hence the FIFO arrangement.

Any other PP members wish to come along?

I will keep an eye out for you Redsand as I will be meeting up with 2 other couples in Kununarra at the start of June and will be up that way for 6-8 weeks I have been told. I will leave Newcastle early April and head up via Longreach, Winton and Mount Isa. Then the Gibb River Road across to Broom Back to Halls Creek then the Tanami over to Alice springs then home.Thats the plan at the moment anyway, things can always change.

Really, where is the other one I didn't know there was 2 of them seriously though its the Kimberly, there is no plural. Some of the locals up that way get upset with that mistake.

We spent 14 nights note GRR which was shorter than ideal, and a few places were closed the year we went due to wet season flooding. Don't miss the Bungle Bungles while you're there, I would skip places on the GRR to make time if needed. Most of the attraction on the GRR are the same, a stunning gorge with a beautiful pool and a waterfall at the end, all worth the effort in their own right but the Bungles are equally spectacular but totally different.

                              Cheers Andrew

You may note I use an apostrophe behind the s to indicate ownership rather than plural.

Bungle Bungles is a must do on the way to Broome

From my reading early June seems to be the best time to travel, roads open but still some water in waterfalls and swimming holes.
                                Anybody disagree?
