We spent 5 days here eating fish, dinner plate size oysters off the rocks in front of our camp and some exploring tracks during the afternoon (can't fish 24/7), and it was time for us to pack up and leave to head off to Mitchell Falls, on the way out we stopped into McGowans Island just to see what that was like and I spose it would suit some but not us, it didn't have much camping space like Honeymoon and it was exposed to the wind which had picked up.

I remembered to track to Mitchell Falls after King Edward River and that was 8 years ago at the end of the dry season and it was and is the roughest track I have ever been on, the worst corrugations ever. Well in 8 years it was the same. It was slow going for the 90 odd km, we got there and unlike 8 years ago when it was just Helga, me and 2 helicopter pilots there, it was a mini city at the camp ground. It was here that we heard that to get to Port Warrimer several 4wds had turned back and some campers had broken their suspension.
We were going there but didn't want to chance it with Jueys camper, Helga and me will go there later by ourselves anyway.

The next morning we all walked to the falls and also walked back (Helga and me had taken the helicopter 8 years previous). A great walk with a refreshing walk across the river to get to the falls lookout.

We just back from up there ourselves a couple of weeks ago, your photos are pretty much a carbon copy of mine, and yeah, that road up to Mitchell Falls was so rough the only time I was on it was when I was bouncing across it! Dysdale River Station now has the contract to grade the road but they had only started when we left so it didn't do us any good.
But what a fantastic place, the time we had just wasn't enough to fit everything in, so I guess we'll just have to go back sometime

After walking to the falls and back we took off mid arvo to Drysdale for the night, and it was another cold night as well. The 90 odd km on the Mitchell Falls road was a lot quicker for me, for me to ride above the corrugations with low tyre pressures was 80 - 90 km/h, where as Juey in his 100 series 50 -60 km/h was the ideal speed. I can't wait to get the Cub Camper I just put money on so I can get to Port Warrimer and check it out along with lots of other places around here.

We left Drysdale the next morning and got the Manning Gorge campground. Gibb River Road was like a highway for the rest of the trip west, probably smoother.
