Leaving Rocky on the 1st September to meet mates in Cairns - leaving Cairns 2nd September 2015 - Should be starting the OTT by the 6th or 7th

Are you doing the OTT in full? YES (hopefully successfully)
      When are you leaving? 01/09/2015
      Where from? Rockhampton
Are you towing? NO - Roof top and Swag on Stretcher
Vehicles in your group? Cut down 100 series a 150 Prado and a 79 Dual cab
Cairns to Cooktown VIA - Cape Trib and the Bloomfield Track
Cooktown to Musgave VIA - Endeavour Falls, Battlecamp Road, Old Laura and 12 Mile Waterhole.
Musgrave to Archer River VIA - PDR
Archer River to Bramwell VIA - Chili Beach, Portland Roads and the Frenchman's Track back to the PDR
Then to the top VIA - OTT - Stopping everywhere!
Home VIA - Either reverse OTT or PDR and Captain Billy's etc. not decided yet.
Old Maytown Laura Road? - NO - Did this in 2012 heading North from Palmer River to Laura. Awesome Drive but very slow.
Lion's Den to Daintree VIA - CREB TRACK

GOALS - My goal for this trip is to take more time to stop and absorb it all this time around. Last trip we were so anxious and keen just to get that photo with the sign, that we forgot a cape trip is just as much (if not more) about the trip and exploring the places along the way rather than the final destination. My advice is to take your watch off and put it in the glove-box as you leave Cairns and don't take it out again until you get back!

      39 days to go - Can't wait

      See yas up there!

CREB Track closed again for repairs

              Posted On 28 Jul 2015

              http://douglas.qld.gov.au/creb-track/

Due to extensive damage caused by unseasonal rains and high traffic volumes, the CREB Track has been closed again until further notice.

The Track was extensively damaged by Cyclone Ita in April 2014 and unseasonal rains further delayed its reopening for the dry season until 15 July.

It is anticipated the CREB Track will be closed again until at least late August 2015 as Council repairs the track and finishes building a new bridge near China Camp to improve access.

Council will provide another update on the CREB Track in mid-August.

My hat off to anyone that does gunshot this season on a Prado, there is a huge amount of risk in that obstacle. No chicken tracks this year.

                  What do you mean?

We did Gunshot chicken track about a month ago in the Prado. There was definitely a chicken track then.

It has changed a lot in the last month....

And by chicken track I don't mean the bypass track.

We did the actual chicken track at Gunshot, not the bypass track. When you get to Gunshot you go left round to the chicken track or you go right to where the original Gunshot is.

Interested to see how it has changed.. Any photos by chance?

I too did slingshot this year (the gunshot "chicken" track) around to the left. We did it on Wednesday 1st of July and did it no worries, no tow, no damage. Later that day another guy did the right "gunshot" in a 2014 150, not sure but I think he had to be dragged out.

I've stayed at 12 Mile twice now and it's a top spot. If you haven't been there then take note camp sites 1, 4, 5 & 6 are the best for croc spotting. Camp sites 4, 5 & 6 are right near a large bank jutting halfway out into the water where the crocodilians like to sun themselves. Also a great place to walk and do spot lighting for them at night. Some sizeable crocs in there. We spotted a 3.5m one there and a few Close to that size. Camp sites 7, 8 & 9 are large and nice sites but the water is too shallow to have anything in it. We camped at 8 this time around and only little juvenile crocs in this area. Site number 4 is not entirely safe for tent or swag camping due to the low slope from the camp site to the water. But in saying that I've never heard of anyone being attacked in that camp site. I just wouldn't sleep in that site if on the ground myself.

12 Mile is a great place to spot large numbers of pigs. They're everywhere in the area.
Make sure you drop into Catfish Waterhole and see the croc in there that is close to 4m long. There's a spot where you'll most likely see him sunning himself from the larger viewing area. He doesn't move much but is a big fella. We saw him there twice in 2 days and on the 2nd day he had his girlfriend next to him.

The biggest croc we saw in Lakefield was a 5m long one at Kennedy Bend. One of the others took video of it entering the water from a bank, swimming on the surface in up to a meter deep of water over a 15m distance and then disappearing ever so gently into deeper water. An absolute monster. But the largest was a 20 footer viewed from a chopper flight from Loyalty Beach to the tip The pilot said it was probably the biggest he'd ever seen. It wasn't that far north of Loyalty Beach. It was laying on the beach near the next creek inlet North. It moved fast to get into the ocean to hide when the helicopter went overhead. Got footage on Go Pro.
