  • A quick trip to Dunsborough: SW in WA

The Fishnuts and Furkids took a quick trip down south to Dunsborough on the weekend for Fishnut's research, decided to stay overnight and had the opportunity to check out some 4WD spots along the way...

Peppermint Grove Beach to Forrest Beach (between Capel and Busselton):

Then through the back of the tuart forest:

Overnighter at Railway Carriages and Farm Stay: Dog friendly!!

A nice trip out along Kilcarnup Road (just north of Margaret River rivermouth): Well worth the trip in!!

    Deep tyre ruts!!

Eagle Bay Beach: The dogs enjoyed it!!

Worth a detour if you get a chance!!
If you're not the lead dog the view never changes!

Choice magazine recommends the Canon Ixus 860 IS as the best dollar for dollar compact camera at the moment. (if anyones interested)

snaga, it really was research - promise!

                        Pomp, The A640 is not a really compact camera. We got it a couple of years ago because it;

                        a) has a mechanical zoom (quasi, at least)
                        b) has full manual functionality (if you want it)
                        c) is 10 megapixels
                        d) uses AA batteries (really useful in the field when there is no power to charge up)
                        d) comes with (optional) housing suitable down to 40m - we use it underwater.

The true compacts don't make very useful underwater cameras and rarely have full manual function - well at least didn't back then.

                          Hey Fishnuts

Whats the meaning of coming down through my stomping ground without notice??

"Kili" is one of our long time fishing spots. The outer reef keeps it quite calm inside the reef, ideal for small dinghy catching big skippy. Many late nights down there over many years.
Your pics of the track looked quite damp and accessible. Track can be a bit soft at end of Summer after being chewed up by Subarus and people with tight tyres.

Other good spots nearby, or bit further down the coast at Hamelin, Deepdene, Sinclairs Reef, etc. A couple of these really soft, and everything you ever learnt about tyre pressures and RPM is put to the test.

A tip from a local tho. Need to watch Furkids down that way, as the dog police are often about. Particularly Kili and Hamelin.

                          Cheers

                            Hey Daz

Sorry to hijack Fishnut's thread but .....

It would be handy to know of any useful 4WD trips down your way so we can put together a weekender for a tribe of Prados.

                            Any thoughts ??

                            Cheers

Happy to help with a bit of local knowledge if I can

As you probably know, Busso to Augusta region is like suburbia at certain times of year, so the locals generally plan around this. But certainly some spots to see "off the beaten track"

Looking at the map around the corner from Cape Leeuwin, towards Millyanup Coast, Jasper Beach, Donnelly areas and there is a lot of area without the crowds. Pretty wet down there this time of year, with some tracks impassable until December around Scott River.
Some nice tracks into the Blackwood, campsites etc, many pretty easy, some a bit more challenging. Many I havent seen myself after living down here 30 years. A few crossing points on Blackwood and Margaret, which arent on the tourist map

One of my favs about this area is the bush comes alive during Spring, if you appreciate trees in flower.

Happy to lend some local knowlwdge along the way. Probably PM me or get e-mail going when I get back after school hols

                              Cheers
