I just did a full circumnavigation of the Simpson in May covering all of the main tracks. I ran 16 psi HOT all the way and had no trouble. Obviously as soon as you are off the sand you have to go up- 26-28 psi HOT on the surrounding roads works well.

So i guess having your vehicle in good shape medium to good quality tyres sensible tyre pressures for the section your about to cross, food and supplies for a week and one would be right for the trip.
My next question would have to be height ! Would any one really need more than a 2"lift , cuz there are those that brave there caravans and seem to get through..And i must admit not all seem as high i would imagine them to need to be. also some are quite heavy indeed .
They have some ballzzy trucks maybe , or the tracks are not all that bad... I guess catching a big wet patch would be the worry.

Well my Daughter and I, and the Prado survived the Cunnamulla to Alice Springs via a few different routes through the Simpson Desert, with minimal (I hope!) damage..!3 PhotosLast edited by Duncan271; 30-07-2018, 10:16 PM.04' 120 PRADO GXL 4ltr Petrol V6 4mm bushskinz steel bashplate 8Tonne recovery points Ironman 4x4 Snorkel 2” lift and other bits of fruit, ready for the next adventure

Got a bit airborne after the second dune from Big Red, yet failed to secure GoPro footage of the event, full of adrenaline I mistakenly floored it and failed to see the large wash outs/divits in the track prior to the climb, didn’t stop me, but definitely thought I busted something.04' 120 PRADO GXL 4ltr Petrol V6 4mm bushskinz steel bashplate 8Tonne recovery points Ironman 4x4 Snorkel 2” lift and other bits of fruit, ready for the next adventure

Other cars in the group were:
Team Lead - Toyota 76 V8 diesel, (2017/18?) no issues reported.
Stock Toyota Hilux diesel ute (2016) with decent tyres, no lift, shovel, tracks, radio, no issues reported.
Toyota 76 V8 diesel (2018) no issues reported.
Land Rover Discovery 4 diesel (2016), displeased with the bush-pinstripes, damage to plastic under front bumper, no other issues reported.
Our 2004 Toyota Prado 120, only petrol in the group, damaged ego after getting stuck then airborne not 2 dunes in after Big Red, front bumper slightly askew, might be what’s making the bashplate look lopsided, some possible suspension bushes need replacement.
Rear bar dropped slightly, could of been when I went airborne, could have been the bulldust on Binns Track or ALL the other corrugated tracks and rock tracks with rocks bigger than the Gibb River Rd..!
No other issues reported.
Ford Ranger PU XLT (2015) diesel, rear tray slide kept opening for a bit, lost some kit, flat tyre on a rocky road, burst eggs and pickles in the fridge (Yum!) almost lost front hella spotlight for good, picked up by us and returned, thing kept dinging chimes when he started it!
Holden Rodeo (2008) diesel, lost a jerry of diesel from the roof rack over the backend.
After Fink, almost lost roofrack completely, bush mechanics and cable tyres required, no other issues reported.
VW Amarok V6 (2016) diesel, didn’t have LT tyres fitted, almost lost every tyre to pretty bad sidewall damage, took a pounding and owner concerned about suspension damage (sounds familiar), no other issues reported.
Good times, approx 7000 km round trip, tiring but worth every freezing minute in that Desert..!

Trailers and caravans etc should be banned across the Simmo.
Whether the owners are too lazy to drop tyre pressures all round and their ability to drive to the conditions is debatable.
Too many numpties that cant drive correctly off road stuff the tracks up for everyone else.

Decent LT tyres are a must, tyre pressure and running in 4H-D a must.
And you haven't mentioned lift , I'm assuming 2" is fine .. Also i wanted to ask if anyone needed lockers /which I wouldn't imagine so nor winch .
