That is either a very well photoshopped photo, ( i know this is possible ) or that is one of the most unreal shots ever taken as far as maps of oz go. Great shot Zukes

Re: Night run through Owen Springs Reserve

A friend from Alice Springs forwarded these pics apparently taken the other night during their recent wild weather.

I do not know who took the photos... but they are pretty impressive... so I thought I would share.

Looking back over the Todd Tavern from the Wills Terrace causeway:

Towards Mount Gillen, possibly from Anzac Hill:

The skies certainly looked menacing.

Re: Night run through Owen Springs Reserve

WOW Mav! Saw the tail end of the news story on the weekend, and a bit of an interview with one of the participants (maybe the leader?)

Did think of you briefly but didnt give it any more thought until i read your story. What an experience!!

Glad you all made it home safe.

It's good for things like flat tires, where someone on your list can actually do something to help you again via sms or email.

The SPOT system has a 911 button that when pressed and if you have the right SAR add on to the service package it will be monitored by the http://www.geosalliance.com/index.html service which is a 24/7 service dedicated to providing Emergency/incident response:

                    http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=1111#

This very special Member Benefit is available to fund additional Search and Rescue efforts (including private aircraft/helicopter charter, private search teams etc.) that may be necessary to aid in your rescue or to pay the costs of official search and rescue charges for which you may be held responsible. Do not assume that the official emergency services will necessarily have all the personnel and equipment available at that critical time when you need help help fast and in some countries, there may not be official help available at all.

I reckon for US$12.95 per year this is a very worthwhile investment, hopefully I will never have to use it but it is nice to know it is there if needed.

I am not suggesting that this is the be all and end all of emergency comms devices because it is not, but used in combination with other methods I believe it is a worthwhile investment.

Here are some additional photos from that eventful weekend. Theses pics where taken by the Southern NTES commander and have been cleared for public use, they were not taken by NT Police. This photos shows the lineup of vehicles after crossing Jay Creek which was supervised by NTES and NT Police.
