  • TRIP REPORT : SEQ 13th Sept Mt Mee Day Trip

    Trip details

    Where: Mt Mee
When: Sunday the 13th September 2009
    Time: 9:00am for 9:30am departure
Meeting Place: Dayboro Bakery... cnr Williams St and Railway St, Dayboro.
    UHF Channel: UHF 16
Things to bring / Cost: Recovery gear, Fuel, Food, Water... etc. (ie. nothing is being supplied)

    Trip description
This trip has been recce'd and is set out in two halves.

    AM
For the morning run we will be following some beginner level tracks with a stop off at Somerset Lookout for morning tea.
Dry weather would see the morning suitable for stock vehicles and novice drivers.
As always though, All terrain tyres or stronger are recommended as we will be off-road and staking from sharp rocks, fallen timber etc... is always a possibility.

    LUNCH
We should arrive at the Gantry Day Use Area by 12 midday where we will stop for an extended lunch break. It's all BYO for lunch but there are timber BBQ's at the day use area or you can bring your own burner or pre packed lunch if you like.
We should be able to spend a solid hour or possibly 2 at lunch so it is as much a meet and greet as it is a day on the trails.
Please note: there are no rubbish bins at the day use area so please bring a rubbish bag or similar so you can take out what you bring in... maybe even a little more

    PM
Depending on timing and interest after lunch (as well as the weather) you will have options as to when you call it a day.
You can call it a day after lunch and in that case you can depart Mt Mee via Sellin Rd and return to Dayboro via Mt Mee Road.
... or, the PM trails will most likely follow the "Dirty Weekends in SEQ" track notes for Mt Mee (in reverse order, going via A break, Diana's Bath Rd, Jacky Creek Break etc...) Returning to Dayboro via Laceys Creek Rd.
The areas of A Break through to Jacky Creek break are probably considered medium level track in the dry and might become hard level tracks if it becomes wet at any stage before the trip. (low range is highly recommended for these areas)

It's a bit late for me after a very long day so if there's anything I need to add or clarify I'll get to that tomorrow.

Hope to see you there, and bring the whole family if you want

Mod edit : Have you read the disclaimer? Please read before agreeing to attend this meet.

Trip Report: SEQ 13th Sept Mt Mee... where else

Well we had a great turnout... just the right amount of cars to keep the convoy moving.

I haven't downloaded the pics yet but I thought I'd start with a Google Earth overlay of the tracks we did today.
I hope it's not too big MODS... any smaller and it loses all detail.

The day started on time... with everyone arriving at the bakery ready for the 9:30am departure.
We headed into Mt Mee via one of the southern/eastern entry points... Chambers Rd. That way we can get onto the dirt sooner than via Sellin Rd.
Most cars took the opportunity to air down and then it was onto the trails.
Thankfully the rain had done it's job and although it was still very dusty it was no where near as bad as a fortnight ago.
We headed along Pegs Rd towards the Gantry to start the planned tracks. Just before the Gantry we turned onto K Break and then further onto A Break... Rather than the usual A break tracks etc... we checked out some more westerly tracks (mostly scenic driving). Checked out a couple of side tracks that stretched the suspension and then stopped for a coffee break at Somerset Lookout.
After the coffee break we headed back towards the Gantry Day Use Area where we stopped for an hour or so... refuelled the bodies with a couple of sanwitches, hotdogs and other non-BBQ type meals and then hit the tracks again.

The afternoon was a little more 'low-range' stuff than the morning but still nothing too strenuous, just enough to make sure the stubby lever was still working.
A few side tracks gave a couple of us a chance to try... 'locked' v's 'open diffs' and just confirms that the Toyota LSD... although it has a bad reputation, still does a lot of work in keeping the wheels turning.
The southern end of the parks is a bit dustier than the middle/northern sections but there was still a bit of water to be found.

I'll get the pics off the camera soon and post some of the 'flex' shots up

The day ended close to 4pm after everyone had aired up at Laceys Creek Rd and the convoy headed back towards Dayboro... each heading in their own directions home.

Thanks for a great day out everyone... I don't know what all the noise was about... it wasn't that dusty up the front where I was
Oh, and Wengnuts... it was just a screw that needed to be tightened on my shelves, so no, it wasn't dodgy workmanship
      Cheers, Leon

it is interesting that when you compare, mine and Matt's cars both standard vs Masso 2 inch lift it doesn't seem to have anymore flex??

I wouldn't think a suspension lift equates to more flex unless the repalcement shocks provide increased down travel. Not having devled into this area I am not sure if this is available in a standard Prado lift but this is where the Datsun's and Cruisers get the increased flex. Therefore all Prdao's should be much the same, happy to be corrected if I am wrong
The one that surprised me was the Pajero as it actually looked to have far more flex than I thought IRS would have given it
