It was a fun days drive. Just a pity that DEC's work 'smoothing out the tracks with a bulldozer' for their
burn-off has flattened the Staples Line. We'll need to wait till another winter has passed (and some more
water created ruts have returned) for another trip that way.

Oh yes, for those that couldn't make it - I'd better defend myself, seeing as half the pics are of me 'stuck'. ops:

Dhula managed to get himself stuck in a rut on the side of the track. Chippy went to help out, but found he couldn't
get into the position needed (across a number of deep ruts) to winch Dhula out on the required angle. So yes I did use
the extra ground clearance and lockers on the 70 series to drive through some of the ruts, where with peoples help,
      we recovered Dhula's 90 series.

Of course then I had a brain fade  and picked the wrong line myself to drive out of the winching position, and dropped
one side of my own vehicle into a nice deep rut as shown on the pics (the second pic of Bankrupts pic series was actually
one I drove through/out-of to get to the spot to winch Dhula, and Chippy pulling out my winch cable was him taking it over
to Dhula's vehicle to recover him - nice captions though Bankrupt. ).

As I was on a bit of an angle in the rut where I was stuck, we hooked Chippys winch line to the back (for stability), and
Leachy's winch to the front. We packed the rut near my front wheel, and tried winching me forward, up out of the rut.
That didn't work, and I ended up dragging Leachy's vehicle forward instead of him pulling me forward. After that we
tried pulling backwards, which got me to a point that with guidance on both sides of the vehicle (to keep me out of the
ruts on both sides), I could drive out.

Cheers all, and thanks again for the day out - good fun.

      John

      True...corrections made 8)

Looking back at what happened it really showed the need for a winch. Dhula's car was stuch hard and without the abiulity to snatch it I'd be surprised whether we would have been able to dig it out and recover it under its own power.

Thanks for a great day guys, we had a ball and it was really good to meet some of the PP WA crew. While it would have been good to get on the staples line, the wellington dam ruts and hills made for some fun! Plus we we camped out fri and sat night so had fun in the mud sat night anyway

Looking forward to the next trip

          AAAARRRRRHHHHH!!!!!

I missed yet another trip! Not happy Jan. Ive been so busy with work and this house by the time I sit down, I fall asleep in the damn chair. Oh well, my stupid fault.

I am so much hanging out to go out and hit the dirt again, this time with the replacement rego plates firmly mounted on the front bar.

Looks like it was a great day with some great photos.

Well, if there is any scope for a run before Xmas, I would be keen and this time more vigilant on this forum.

I trust you are all well?

          Cheers

                      Hi all,

My b/day is on Dec 8th so it look like there might be a number of good excuses for another gathering.

I was planning to float an idea for a pre-Xmas BBQ at our place in York. We have 2 acres with plenty of room for a few camper trailers and a self contained studio separate from the main house that could be shared for showers/loo etc. We have a bit of a special garden although all the roses are just past their best but when we light it up at night it is a nice place for a gathering. We have done sit down functions for 40plus people up there from time to time.

How about a run @ powerlines and through the bush in that area on the Saturday and gather at our place for a BBQ in the evening becauuse it is heating up during the day. Anyone with campers could perhaps park them at the Lakes and pick them up before heading up to York. We have the Tvan up there so we can make that available. Timewise York is less than an hour from Midland.

Our dates are flexible so if anyone is interested lets get a few ideas together.

                      Cheers

                      Mike

Sounds like a good idea Mike.

Might be worthwhile putting in a new topic/thread though.
