Re: Sun Mar 21 : NSW Day Trip Newnes State Forest

Looks like we may have a warm day for tomorrow; temps from 15 to 28 with possible late shower. Hopefully it'll be clear so we can get some good views from the various lookouts around the forest.

      Cheers,

      Glenn

Re: Sun Mar 21 : NSW Day Trip Newnes State Forest

                Trip Report:

Well another top day out with some PP members; this time we had the South African connection coming along today! We drove up from Sydney to the Zig Zag railway carpark & aired down.

From there it was into the forest where we followed some of the "usual" tracks, which was a new experience for the others of course. Followed the powerlines for a while & then went to the wombat holes for some fun (check videos). We then went over to the Lost City for some spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The Boomslang crew took a walk down to the bottom (can't drive it anymore as it's blocked off at the top).

Then it was over to the other Lost City track for some more 4 wheel driving fun.

We came back up the track & stopped at a clearing for lunch. Peter's fire extinguisher had accidentally discharged itself in the back of his car so had to clean out all this white powder!

                Lunch for the happy campers.

We decided to go to Sunnyside lookout; the track had been recently graded so was an easy drive there. Excellent views overlooking the Wolgan Valley.

We turned around & headed back, stopping off at Birds Rock & Bald Hill for some more sightseeing.

Then it was time to head back to the Zig Zag to air up, with the steam train arriving at the same time.

                Video #3

Thanks to those who came along today; it was great to meet the outback panda crew & we'll do it again another day for sure

Post up your photos guys :!:

                Cheers,

Thanks for an awesome day out. Lasting momories. I think I got rid of most of the smelly yuk from the bottom of the car after driving through that brewing mudpool.

Mr Misty Mountain cannot match you as a tour leader and hopefully the South Africans didn't get to you too much.

                      Cheers Piet

Yeah Leon I've been going to this forest for nearly 12 years now & still haven't explored all of the tracks!

The Sunnyside Ridge track has been graded all the way from Blackfellows to the lookout :!: Only took around 25 minutes instead of the usual 50. Low range not required  They also graded half of the track to Bald Hill trig too, don't know why :?:

Yes the steam train also has a VERY LOUD horn :!: :!:  Renee & Andrea nearly leapt out of their skins when the thing went off

Great vids Glenn! You did a great job holding the camera so still whilst climbing the rough ground. I love the look of those lumpy, steep climbs. Looks like another top day out and bewt weather to match.

What a day of contrasts. Up here, 1000kms away, whilst you we're working through dusty-hardpack we were sliding through clay.

Yeah thanks LF&R, that little camera I bought last year works well & was surprised how the video turned out when I was following the vehicles up that rocky hill; I thought it'd be jumping all over the place.

Certainly a big contrast in terrain between here & there :!:  Dust was bad on our trip, except for the trip leader of course
