  • TRIP REPORT : North East Tasmania

Thought it was about time I did a report on a trip I did on Easter Sunday .

After watching a trip to Petal Point that Pat Callinan did on one of his shows thought it would be good to get and and have a look myself. Since the in-laws already lived halfway to petal point thought it would make a good day trip for all of us.

Packed the family into the Prado and headed off. Picked up in-laws in their crusier on the way.
Drove to Petal Point on as many unsealed roads that we could find. Was a very clear calm day so was very nice.
Aired down and followed sandy tracks to beach. Quite a few options to take and could have been as hard as you wanted. Drove down onto the beach and while the tide was out went for a drive to see what was about. Came upon a huge bone that we assumed was from a whale.
Found group of young persons bogged in the seaweed with no recovery euqipment and wanted our help  .
Had lunch on the beach then continued our exploring.
Drove out to Eddystone Point and had a look at the light house and surrounding area.
Then to finish the day off took a 4WD only track from Eddystone Point to Ansons Bay which the kids, little and big 8) , really enjoyed as there was a bit of everything with mud holes, rock, good lean angles etc.
Aired up at Ansons Bay and drove home. 500km round trip for the day.

Re: Trip Report- North East Tasmania

Looks like a great trip. I love Eddystone point & Ansons Bay, I used to go up there for photography trips. Apparently there's great prawns to be had in Anson's bay - I'll have to try when I get there again. I've never actually done the trip down on the 4wd track. I heard there's a 4wd track somewhere down there that the army used to use for training. They took all sorts of vehicles through and made it almost impassable. Not sure where it is but I'd love to find it one day.

Looks like the family had a great day. Missing Tassie at the moment - just had some photography friends do a few weeks there and came back with some very nice shots making me all the more homesick..
    Cheers - Phil Taylor

The 4wd track is sign popsted at the Eddystone Point end but not at the Ansons Bay end. It is not overly difficult but would be more of a challenge if there had been a lot of rain  . I would really like to get out and do more of this sort of thing but it is always more fun with others so hoping we may have a Tassie PP get together someday.

Looks like a good trip VKPrado.

I'm keen for a tassie trip, perhaps we need to set a date down the track so tassie people can diarise in advance ?

I'm heading to Melb to pickup an Outback Eagle (2nd hand) in a couple of weeks, then I'll be set for weekend trips with the family.

Not sure what other PP's have in mind, but East coast always has plenty of appeal.

Just need a couple of us to set a date and hopefully the others will follow. We are not set up to camp but can do the cabin thing if needed but don't mind driving anywhere in the state.
East coast would be good as there are plenty of tracks to follow and explore.
