Hi Braddo,
Still keen. Ourimbah interchange rest area at 9:30 OK? Channel 20 as the uhf is already on that one.
Great day in the Watalgan’s. If you want mud, it’s there. If you don’t want mud, it’s very easy to avoid. I went through less water today than my last 2 trips to Newnes.
Started from Morisset, first point agreed was no mud and headed to Cut Rock Rd. The group consisted of my 150, several very well setup Hilux's (35's, twin lockers), 2 Defenders (1 33's, rear locker, 1 35's, portals, twin lockers), 1 Jeep (only standard thing was the chassis), 3 Mitsubishi L300 (31's, lockers), D2 Disco (pretty stock except tyres), 1 big GU ute.
The L300's, Disco and GU decided not to do the lower part of Cut Rock and meet us a little further up the track. The Hilux's did it easy, 1 defender did it very easy, the other needed a little help. I did make it through with a little track building and adjustment of the Toyota side steps. I would not like to do the first section again, very tight as you have rock walls either side and no choice as to where you go. Just after we got through the hard bit, the fuel pump on the Jeep died, he finished up getting towed out by the GU and both ended the day then.
The rest of the cars then went back and tried the top section of Cut Rock. I did it once, that was enough for one day. All needed to be helped, one L300 came so close to a tumble on a steep rocky section but luckily bellied on a rock as it bounced sideways and blew a CV at the same time. We then headed to Muirs Lookout for a late lunch after few more side trails that the big boys had fun on. After lunch the crew that only did the top of Cut Rock didn’t continue, the rest headed off and the big boys found a stupid track to do (and all did). I sat in the Defender with portals and was amazed how easy it did this track with metre high steps, amazing.
The last track was done purely to get somewhere. Don’t know the name and won’t do it again. After about 1km, it got a bit over grown for a short way and then came good. The guys in front had done this track a month and said it was ok and were amazed how much the lantana had grown (they didn’t enjoy it either). A bit further on, with no chance to go back, I got apologies over the radio. All I can say is LANTANA and more LANTANA. I hated this track (actually, if you saw the 4wd monthly dvd, the track that had the washed out section with a warning marker, that is the track), as it was after 5pm when I got to the end, I then headed out and home. I HATE lantana and that horrid noise it makes on your car.
I have tried not to look at the outside on the Prado too much but a good polish will remove most of it, f*&^&en lantana.
After all that, see you in the morning Braddo and no lantana.

Is anyone keen for a Newnes run this Saturday (31st)? I'll have a rookie driver with me who wants to try her hand at the wombat holes.
Today she had the 80 series sitting on its side step on the Riverstone crown land.
This was my fault as I was trying too hard to capture the moment when I was supposed to be spotting
A little too much confidence in the vehicle on my part maybe...

Meh, it's better that the cardboard sidesteps take the damage that the body seams. I'll keep them on until I've either done a body lift or fitted some steel steps.Originally posted by glen_ep View PostIt's your second 4be, you shoulda known to remove those side steps when you bought it!
So, how'd you get it out?
Getting out required the rear locker but it had no trouble once the pretty blue switch was pressed

Hey Declan,
I almost drawn my 80 there about a month a go. by the looks of the photo, it looks to be holding a bit of water still.
Got to use my new loker today on a downhill run at Sunny Corner. No video of the 80 but got Michael doing it.Anthony:

So the locker has gone in already Anthony, nice.
Are there any takers for a Newnes run this Saturday? The weather forecast is looking good with <1% chance of rain
