I won't be able to make it along tomorrow Glenn but was hoping for a trip next weekend if anyone is available. Was going to suggest a trip to check out Turon, but you'd probably want a trip elsewhere seeing as you're heading there tomorrow. Anyway, let us know if you're keen for next weekend and we can sort something out.
On another note, there was an article in the local paper here stating that Conservation Volunteers are going to be closing down a number of "illegal" 4WD tracks in the southern section Newnes SF, apparently to protect some swamps from nasty 4WDers. It will be interesting to see what tracks they close off...
Next weekend will be a go Jeff, I volunteer you to be trip leader 8)
Name your destination :!:
Leigh & Lorrae & family will be free also for that trip.
What are "Conservation Volunteers" I would have thought State Forests have jurisdiction in their areas.
OK, sounds good. If anyone has any suggestions on where to go I'm open to ideas, wouldn't mind checking out somewhere new but no problem heading back to an ol' favourite. Just checked NPWS website, that road in Turon is closed "until further notice due to flood damage" which, in National Parks speak, most likely means closed for a bloody long time, so I guess there's not much point heading into Turon?
Conservation Volunteers are this mob of smiling greenies: http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/, apparently they're in cahoots with State Forests to close off the tracks.

I'm out for this weekend 2nd/3rd - heading up the coast instead (Myall Lakes).
Bummer.......we were hoping to get Lyfe & his monster truck to climb the hill at Nayook Creek at Newnes SF
Have a good time at Myall, & post up some pics too.
Jeff, how about going to Sunny Corner again, could go to the western side again where that nice lookout is over Bathurst, or maybe go to another area :?: May have to consult the map
Cheers,
Glenn

Sunny Corner is a possibility Glenn, I actually went there weekend before last for a couple of hours with a mate in a Jeep and we just covered a few of the tracks we've driven before, like Mt Ovens, the long descent down to the creek etc). There were quite a few trees down but we got around most of them, came to a halt at that rutted hill, it was quite washed out and we decided not to risk it. I'll have to check the maps but I'm pretty sure there are still quite a few tracks in the western section we haven't checked out?
If you want to head to Sunny Cnr I can post up a trip thread.

Might have to make it a Sunday trip Jeff as Leigh & Lorrae are free that day.
Sunny Corner western side from the Yetholme servo :?:
Would like to do some recce trips out there one day as it's such a huge area. Found this youtube video which looks interesting although the only reference she mentions is Mitchells Creek Rd, have no idea where the old mine shafts are.....
I had a quick look at the topos, that Mitchells Creek Rd is pretty easy to find, it's to the east of Mt Schofield, and runs N-S across the join of Meadow Flat and Portland mapsheets. Would be interesting to know where they found those mineshafts, could be worth exploring...
I'll post up a thread shortly.
