Anyway... sorry guys (Chaser in particular), but I'm going to have to change the destination for this Saturday to the south coast; Yalwal. I need to do a recce run down there for an upcoming camp trip. I hope to try out the hardcore Monkey Gum Trail, and have a peek at Six Stager... http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/vi...f=180&t=108258

Of course others can still run a trip up north or west if they wish.
Is this a solo recognisance trip our did you want to make a PP trip out of it? I'd certainly be interested.

Yes that's right Declan. National Parks have gated off the tracks on the north side of Wisemans years ago but they still put on 4wd tagalongs on a regular basis so you can access those areas. Have been on lots over the years & some with PP members also. We organised a trip ourselves along the Womerah Range track a couple of years ago, the only thing is we have to pay NP for the privilige but it's the only way to get through those locked gates!
There are some good trips on the Autumn Discovery program atm but as usual they get booked out very quick. Spoke to Mark at Central Coast NP today who organises these things & he did say that we can still organise a private tagalong depending on the availability of the volunteer rangers. Gotta pay for it of course. There's a trip in June starting from the St Albans area following one of the powerlines tracks & then joining up with the Old Great North Rd. which is a trip I haven't been on before; would be a good one I reckon. Again it was booked out in no time flat though!
Another excellent trip is along the "Eastern Commission Track" as they call it through Dharug NP. Done that one a couple of times & is thoroughly enjoyable. These trips are not hardcore trips by the way; more sightseeing & checking out the Aboriginal & early European settlement history. Great for a family day out.
      Cheers,
      Glenn

some of the tracks off wheelbarrow ridge road -just after the lower portland bridge (bridge to nowhere)- used to be really good. One got to a rocky creek crossing that I couldn't get past in a GQ SWB with 4"lift and 35's. This was ten years ago though and am unsure if the tracks are still open however. There were quite a few tracks out there though.
Unfortunately Ben they are all gated off now. We did a PP trip back in November 09 along the powerlines track off Wheelbarrow Ridge Rd just before it was closed (thanks to Ranger Richard for letting us know what was about to happen!). Was a fairly easy drive. There was another track which was a lot more difficult; probably the one you know, but again it was closed off years ago. Nothing else open in that area now except for the odd one or two short trails to nowhere.
        Cheers,
        Glenn

            • Yalwal is bit too much for my prado. Done a trip down there 5 yr ago in my old 4runner with 35's and lockers but not worth the damage on the new one.

I am keen to get back to lithgo and explore again, but most Sundays are out for me...

              • Don't be scared of Yalwal Glen. We did it late last year in torrential rain most of the three days we were camped there. Did Monkey Gum from mintbush witout a single recovery in the wet, very wet.

A standard defender and 80 series, and GU with 2" lift and almost bald 31" BFG AT's all had no trouble. you will be fine. There are some really good tracks there. You could spent two or three days exploring.

                • My internet is down again damnit. I thought Telstra is supposed to be the best?

Thanks Ben, but who said I'm scared? ;-)

Chaser; don't worry there will plenty trips to the Lithgow region, it's our most visited playground. I think ill be doing more Saturday trips from now on, I need Sunday for the clean up. I used to squeeze the cleanup in the evenings but it's getting too dark and cold for that now.

I was worried what Chaser said may put you off. But we all know what 4 Runners are like, ha ha!

I would love to come with but it seems to be first birthday season at the moment, third one in four weeks so I am out.

LOL. I'll often have to leave my car dirty for ages! Some times its still dirty when the next PP trip comes around. The clean up is such a devil of a job.

So its whats it gonna be captain? Are we going to Yawal? Meeting place/time?
