We are also considering heading north in May 2011, at this stage we just have general plans to head to Cairns, then through the Daintree to Cooktown...but we are open to suggestions!

Hey does anyone know how the tracks are looking at the moment to get to the tip. Mainly concerned about the amount of water and if it will be possible to get there early June this year

                Cheers Tom

                  Hi Tom,

                  This site is useful -

                  http://www.cooktownandcapeyork.com/roads

It's still pretty wet up here although we have had two straight days of sunshine!

                  Regards,

Heading up that way in the second half of July - Prado & Hi Lux in convoy. Current track reports from Cairns to Sesia would be appreciated. Recent rains / cyclones must have had an impact on the roads - would like to have an idea of what to expect.

This is not sounding great at the moment. From the site quoted above

We went to the Cape last year, about this time last year we were hearing all the same stories, late wet season, nothing will be open, roads won't be passable etc etc. Didn't turn out that way in the end. The cape was well and truly open for business, even though there was a lot of rain just before we got there and even 3 inches while at seisa. Yes the Creb was closed due to rain, And the Pascoe on the Frenchmans was 1.5 metres deep so couldn't get through, but generally most things were OK. And everyone was telling us we struck the wettest dry season in 20 years. Just think of it as all being part of the adventure.

                              Cheers Andrew
