Re: SEQ Rainbow Beach / Double Island Day Trip - Feb 26

        Hello All

I went up that way on Saturday.

Cooloola Way is open even though there was still a 'road closed' sign where it starts at the Harry's Hut Y-junction. The Derm website shows it as open and we spoke to the local Ranger, Steve, who confirmed this.
The road was in pretty good condition with only 3 mud holes - the first and third were deeper than expected.

We crossed over the bridge at the Noosa River crossing instead over going down the bypass and through the river - it's probably doable but we were only a single vehicle and didn't want to risk getting stuck.

Once on the King Bore Track - East Firebreak (the western firebreak was closed) we had a lovely run all the way to the beach - no real challenges to speak of except for the dropkick coming back the wrong way on the one way track.

We spent a bit over an hour on the beach cooking lunch on the Weber Q and watching the world go by and then headed north and jumped onto the Freshwater Track. I haven't been on this before and it's a very picturesque drive. We did get stuck behind a recovery convoy of 3 vehicles and they let us through at the earliest opportunity (this was pretty close to the beach end - they would have had a loooong trip home.

Back onto the Rainbow-Tin Can road then a left turn onto a forestry road (name forgotten) west of the Cooloolola way entrance and back into Kin Kin and a mates place for a few well earned bears.

All in all it was a glorious day out with the 150 performing flawlessly - I hope you guys have a good as day as us next week.
