"work out where you want to put the control box."

I mounted mine on the left on a flat area on the new bullbar mount/bracket.There was 2 small holes of which came in totally useful to use as mounting points.

    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ta-winch/page3

In regards to grinding,i had to also grind part of the left side due to the main Earth lug hitting from the motor onto the mounting bracket...

Guru's, what's the access to the winch like for servicing and repairs with the sovereign bar?

        Hi snowy,
Not particularly good, best if you take the winch off to service, I have the ironman 9500. Some of the leads coming off the winch are pretty hard to access with it on. Interesting to note that the toyota winch cradle says max 9500 lb i know others have put 12000 lb winches on theirs. With regard to the fairlead I just drilled a hole in the one I got with the winch at the right offset to suit the bar, using 2 of the existing holes in the cradle.
        Cheers

Thanks for the reply Phil, I suspected as much. It's just that a half decent winch is so cheap these days, it's very tempting. I think I'll stick with my OL hand winch and max tracks, and get a winch on the next car, whenever that will be. Thanks again mate, Cheers.

I had the recall done for the Bull Bar mounting brackets.
Got the factory winch cradle installed at the same time
Ordered a 12000 pound Tigerz 11 with rope
Purchesed an offset hawse for 55 bucks from a 4wd expo
Installed it with a little help from my brother and a few 'bench presses' of a 23kg winch under the car
            Wired the little puppy up.

For anyone speculating about having to remove the bar, it was a very simple task to add the winch with the bar on and i completed it mostly by myself in under 1.5 hours.
            Ok all you knowledgable PPers...

Can anyone confirm that a winch can be removed from the soverign bar without removing the bar itself?

Its service time for the winch and it looks like there is enough room to lift it down...

But has anyone done this as of yet?

            Cheers Drew.

Put mine in after the bar went on so you should be able to take it off as well. Just enough room to wriggle it out

Ahh good stuff... That saves alot of messing around...

Its come to my attention that a winch should wind on 'under' the drum. On my Sov bar the winch winds on 'over' the drum.
From what I can see the winch cannot be mounted so it winds under the drum.

Can I please have some feedback to how other PPers have got their rope/wire winding on to the drum with a Sov bar.

                Cheers drew.

                      Hey rolf...

Its certainly very clear in step 3. The only way to mount a winch on this cradle is with rope 'OVER' the drum.

Im now thinking the toyota 'SUPERWINCH' was designed to be used like this
                      OR
The toyota winch cradle was an afterthought on the Sov bar and is actually designed and engineered in a poor manner.

So the question remains... Are us Sov bar owners actually damaging our winches by running our winches with rope 'OVER' the drum?

Im struggling to actually see how running under or over the drum would make any difference to a winches performance...

                      Opinions please...

Yep, I'm with you on this one. Also the fact that the off-set hawse needs to Be mounted to the top two bolts rather then the bottom ones makes me think even more so the rope needs to go over on the Sovereign bar. After all it becomes the path of least resistance and the most direct route onto the drum. Have a mate booked in on Thursday to mount up bar so will get some pictures.

                        Cheers

I didnt mention it but I have the bar &winch on at the mo...
When OL fitted the cradle & winch they said the Sov bar was not really designed for a winch.
Im starting to think that this 'over the drum' issue is what they were referring to.
Im actually looking into this issue as the winch is coming out for a service and I wanted to fit it back 'under the drum'...
Doesnt look like that is going to happen.

When I mounted my winch it spooled on under the winch and as mine is a two speed geared wind in I had to change the polarity in order to have it wind in over the top. I can't see how having the rope going over the top would change the forces very much... All I know is that the braking still works and it can pull a fulling loaded prado and camper trailer out of the sand a bunch of times and when I stripped it down I couldn't find any signs of damage.

                              Hey Sy.

So when you mounted yours to the cradle did you place to motor to the drivers or passengers side?
OL basically flipped my whole winch over so its upside down (gbox on drivers / motor on pass side) to achieve the rope winding on over the drum.
So when you changed polarity it sounds like its mounted correctly but the motor turns in a opposite direction? Is that correct?

OK I called Tigerz this morning and the bloke in Melbourne said that it is fine for the winch to be mounted with the motor on the passenger side and the rope feed onto the drum from the top. He advised the main concern is the rope not being stressed as it passes through the hawse onto the drum.

                                Cheers
