  • Re: Home made drawers under $110. Basic measurments added

Well I have finally gotten around to posting some pics of the draw setup. As I mentioned before i think these would come in around to $900 mark. Having said that, I had none of the materials at all and even had to buy some tools so I guess this cost could be expected.

Can't take all the credit for these though...
Big thanks to you guys here for the hints and to Chippy for posting those plans ...
Also a big thanks to my mate who helped me build these... (there were some late nights !!)

Pictures tell a thousand words. Hope the links work correctly.

** Mods, PM me if there are too many photo's and I'll edit the post - or just remove if needed. Tried to keep the size small.

** Early stages of the build... Ended up using liquid nails to glue all the carpets on. If you put a good bead around the very edges and then cris-cross the middle area's it works incredibly well. I tried the carpet glue's and they really were just annoying. (Applying glue, then waiting for it to go tacky etc). With the liquid nails it was just apply, fit carpet and put downward pressure on the "gluing" parts for 10 min's. Used heavy weights (Anything heavy) and tie down straps pulled tight around the edges for the tricky thin edge area's. (i.e... the edge of the table shown below. Liquid nail bead round the edge, apply carpet and Used a tie down strap right round the edge of the table to clamp it down for 10 mins.)

I may as well add these shots of the Trek Table Clone I made up. Its not really on topic for the draw thread, however, in practice this table just goes so well with the whole draw setup. I have no idea why anyone would get draws and not a table as well. A table is truly one of the best mods you could possibly do and also cheapest !

    Thanks for looking.

Big thanks to Mumsrig for starting this thread and even more thanks to all members for providing their drawer setups. Hopefully now that I have some time off work, there are a few projects on my list.

Work in progress for my drawer system:

Some of the features of the slide:
              * 17mm CD ply used throughout (12mm seemed a bit flimsy)
              * Hettich 700mm ball bearing drawer slides (rated at 90kg) used for drawers
              * Hettich 600mm ball bearing drawer slides (rated at 90kg) used for fridge slide
              * Aluminium sheets used where latch and spring bolt are secured
              * All joins are glued and screwed

The mount points need to be installed, side wings need to be made and fastened and whole lot needs to be carpeted.

I think I probably over engineered this one, could have gone a lot cheaper, but considering I don't intend to sell the Prado i think it will last the distance.

Good work everyone. I love this thread and have checked it out many times. I have saved many of your pictured to a file, so I can compile ideas for my own drawer system. I would like a single larger drawer to one side with the ARB freezer/fridge on the floor (so the wife and kid can reach into it). I would like leave room on top of the single drawer to stack 3 Pelican cases. One is my Pelican Paramedic case, and the other 2 will change depending on the mission of the day.

I'm wondering if I can add a water tank to the system or under the vehicle with a 12 volt pump and small water exchanger. Now I just need to get some wood working skills.

                  Only time will tell....

                  Thank you for contributing everyone.

The thing that is pushing me towards the ARB fridge slide is that it's almost the perfect length (for my needs) 720mm. Not due to the fridge size but maximising the space in the back of the Prado.

To top it off... it's only $275.00 from ARB.

I haven't tried/used any slides so this is just my observations...
Leon, did you end up buying on of these and if so were and how much did you get it for, i am building a box like Ba77HY.

I did, I bought the ARB/Engel slide due to it's depth... left enough room for the capsule anchor point behind the slide. I got it from ARB at Capalaba for $275 I think.
This is where I'm up to now... just need to carpet it.
