    240 blitzes

Finally settled on buying the lightforce 240 blitz, the local auto leccy`s assure me they`ll fit but i`ve still got my doubts. has anyone got photo`s of 240`s on a standard 120 alloy bullbar they can share.

      Addy,

The 240's do fit in to the ARB Deluxe Bar. When ARB installed mine they stuffed it up pretty well. The lights were facing down and hitting the top of the bar and when opened the bonnet they hit the grill :x They also fitted the wiring in such a way that when you closed the bonnet you had to make sure it didn't get squashed by the grill onto the bar itself. :x :x

So after the wiring pulled out whilst driving I set about fixing their lazyness. All I did is turn the mounting bracket around 180degrees and this pushed the lights forward about 6mm. This resulted in the lights now clearing everything and being able to point straight ahead. I re-ran the wiring down through the front spotlight mounts in some split tubing stuff and it looks heaps cleaner.

Edited twice (make that three now )now as my wife pulled me up for damn spelling mistakes

Thanks for that mate, I take it your bar is of the steel variety and possibly a little different in dimensions to mine. I`ve got the polished alloy bar (that doesn`t look as though it`d stop much) the one that comes from toyota. But i`m feelin your pain, it cost a fortue to get somethin wired and 9 times out of ten you gotta have another go at it yourself!

Good on ya Lacey ... get stuck into him ... I keep getting red ink on my screen doing the corrections

          Hey Brendo

Here's a pic of the Lightforce XGTs on a Sovereign bar ....

The shape difference between the Blitz and the XGT isn't that much .... in fact I reckon the Blitz would clear the top of the bar a little better.

Going for the Hella 4000 X3 because I have them from the previous Prado.
I have always fitted up my own lights, heavier wiring and relays.
They will be on an ARB bar, I am looking at HID upgrades as well.

Thanks chippy much appreciated, I thought they might might look a bit silly, but those photo`s look alright. I`ll probably only be able to drive at night with those big buggers sittin in front of the radiator.

Regarding the air flow to radiator thinking, I have 3(2 spots, 1 spread) across my bar,
Towed a CT across oz in jan/feb last year. Across nullabor in 40+C.
No problem with cooling. Temp needle would rise a little up hills (on throttle) and quickly return to normal on flat ground.
I mentioned earlier in a seperate thread that the toyota cooling system must be very efficient.
                Thats running aircon as well.

                Jeff.

One thing to consider is the extra space made available by fitting a bar both by the extra vents but also the extra space forward of the bull bar. And yes, there is a reason we all bought toyotas, they are VERY reliable.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but ROO lights are the go!

Virtually the same as Lightforce and a fraction of the price. Like Lightforce you are able to adjust them so you can either have one spread, one spot or two spreads or two spots.....

                    Great value for money....

No offence to Chippy and Matt, but what happens if a roo hits the Prado with those 240's sticking out the front?

I have a pair of 170 strikers on my 75 series ute behind the arb steel bar, but i would be hesitant (no matter how invincible Mr LightForce says they are) to bank on having them sticking out the front of the bar .....

I have two hella pieces of shit on the sovereign bar at the moment and am looking at either putting the 170's off the ute on with a narva bull light or going something expensive to replace .... 240's look good but with a lot of driving out west in dusk and night i'm a bit hesitant .....

You blokes obviously spend too much time driving in desert wastelands .
In twisty hilly country two spread beams are best , had IPF's in this combo on my work vehicle (shudder Nissan Patrol ) for a long time and is much better than the spot/ spread on my own Prado .

I put the 240 blitz's on my new rig see below, also look at Mav's rig in the "show us ya rig" thread with everyones Prado pics in it. I talked with a few people regarding the airflow issue, and not one thought it would be a problem. Although, those people were salesmen. But if you look at the Sovereign bull bar, a fair whack of the airflow actually comes from underneath the bar as well as through the lower grille. I drove up north of Perth for 3 hours at Christmas / New years when it was 40+ degrees. Absolutely no problems. I also queried Mav when he drove back to the Alice from Adelaide also with 240 Blitz's fitted, no overheating.

However, they do sick out front a tad. If you hit anything, rest assured they will bare the brunt of it I have no doubt. I just decided to accept the risk....

Nice IP, I have one of mine set for spread and the other set for spot. Combining this with the fog lights I get a nice even light saturation.

Hey Mav. It was your photo's that finally convinced me that the 240's were the way to go. In my opinion, they really don't look too bad on the sovereign bullbar. I don't have fogs fitted at the moment. Too much money spent already but I'll keep a watch out for some decent ones.

I'm not entirely convinced about the blue filters though. They seem to make the overall light penetration weaker. Maybe it's just the different colour, I'm not sure. More testing needed. Damn good lights though!

Hey guys just another idea in the spot/spread beam discussion for those with the ARB bars. I have 2 spot beam IPF900xs which give excellent penetration. I then went to TJM and they mounted a set off 100mm Narva driving lights in the fog light housing, which I have pointed out to the side of the IPF beams giving me the spread and the distance. I have also put the IPF fatboys bulbs in the headlights which give fantastic spread close to the car. The result is a complete spread of light that penetrates a bloody long way. TJM charged $300 to supply and custom install (the mountings had to be modified) the narvas.

Just some more food for thought.
