Runva winches , mine failed , think twice about buying one
OK I opened up my control box this afternoon to check the cabling inside. Everything is pretty snug due to the compact size of the control box. Probably too snug as you will see. My first concern was as per P.O.T's issue of chaffing of the cables at the terminals. Everything there was OK with mine with no signs of rubbing whatsoever. In my opinion here is, if everything is tightened up securely then even if contact with the side of the bolt, chaffing should not occur causing a short and the damage that P.O.T experienced. A little more protection will be added just to be sure I case I'm wrong here...
Firs view, all looks OK
To be sure that there was no chaffing, I removed the cable to check - all good though
As said, to be sure, some extra protection is added with a piece of tubing put around the cable to sit against the adjacent terminal point where P.O.T had his failure. Even though it wasn't a contact point, I also stripped a pice of twin and used the insulation as a grommet for protection as you can see in the top left hand corner of the box...
Now, upon further inspection, the snugness of the control box comes apparent with some nasty chaffing of the control wires on the top of the box exposing bare copper!. Not good, so I'm pleased I checked. You can see this in the next pic.
TBC....
