Anyway your not making things easy, my wife wants safety and good looks (that's why she married me, LMAO), or is that not going to happen?

Safety = steel over alloy , Good looks = ARB and sovereign over TJM and others?
We do intend to do some day 4WDing and the occasional overnighter but not the real serious outback stuff.

there's a lot of too and fro about steel vs alloy, one brand vs another brand... but realistically. it comes down to what you like the look of.. i think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone to argue against the fact that any of them would be significant steps ahead of the plastic bumper when it comes to protecting your vehicle from damage after hitting anything that decides to jump in front of you.... how they handle the hit varies... but even alloy is tougher than plastic..

Safety, maybe you might want to read the stats on 4WD's crashing and the victim impacts around the city. Although the fourby might look OK the passengers can get whiplash and lots of bruising from being thrown around in a 2 vehicle accident. This is one of the biggest arguements against bull bars currently.
I must say on the other hand that the Prado looks and feels safe, and I have a bullbar which hopefully stop the wildlife and such from damaging the rest of the car, mostly. This same bullbar also houses the spotlights so I can see the wildlife hopefully before I evade it.
If however it was a city car I would not bother, and rely on the crumple zones and insurance policies.
In conclusion, city car = no bull bar
      occasional outings car = alloy
regular hitting of things = steel.
Looks are a personal thing so do what you feel is best.

appreciate all that, but the question wasn't whether one should be bought, but which one was better, so assume the safety aspects of whether to get one or not don't apply, just which one to get... both have pro's and con's just go with the one you like most. for me it was the ARB one. sales hype aside, i like the look of it, all colour coded... get's me excited.

free snorkel is a nice deal though! just shows how much profit is in the bar's!

For a daily driver and the occasional day trip I would probably consider the alloy for the weight advantage... if you were to hit something... hey that's what insurance is for

              Re: TJM Temptation

              Hi Niel

I went the TJM Alloy (T15) on mine. The reason i went for TJM as i wanted a heap off accessories fitted before i took delivery and TJM were significantly cheaper than ARB for the equivalent products.

I probably will go the ARB next time as I do agree the ARB Steel does look better than the TJM (in my opinion)

Still very happy with it though and the approach angle is awesome.

As people said, go with what you like. you have to drive it!! If you can get a option deal then that is great and prob means you can get something else fitted alsoo. Just tell the missus the standard price and you are laughing

              Good luck!

                Re: TJM Temptation

Some of our work vehicles have TJM bars installed (steel), there's nothing wrong with them. I love my ARB bar (Sahara) albeit a bit damaged now (but a new one on order) but as you pointed out they are considerably more expensive.

If you think you've go a fair chance of smacking things (like roos) then I'd probably go the TJM in steel. If not, go the alloy. The upside in alloy is that you wont get the rust dramas like a steel bar but the down side is of course it takes less effort to damage an alloy bar over a steel bar. But hey, that's what insurance is for, just make sure you list absolutley everything on your policy.

Anyway, if you go the alloy then I'd defintely get the snorkel fitted option as well. The airteks look damn better that the safari snorkels and you can always get well priced recovery kits etc on ebay at anytime

                      Hi all

I agree with most of these comments. You have a vehicle worth many thousands of dollars. Go for an ARB bar and don't spoil its looks. FWIW.

                      Cheers - John

                          Re: TJM Temptation

The alloy sovereign bars sure do get pushed around easily. I recently went 4wding and after getting through a creek bed I managed to get stuck on a rock. As I rolled back off it the sovereign bar got hit from the bottom and was pushed up approx 7mm and left a small battle scar. Was only rolling too...
Also, getting the winch cradle for an aluminium bar is another cost along with more time and effort installing it. Winch cradle cost me over $200 and then a good 5 hours to install.
If you are tempted by the snorkle, then obviously you intend on doing some decent 4wding including water crossings, so a winch should really be on the list too.

                            Re: TJM Temptation

I must be the only PPer that has a ECB Bullbar and DOESN'T think they are completely gay.

Granted, if I was to choose a bullbar to purchase, I would probably go an ARB one, but, having said that, ECB bullbars are the strongest alloy bar going around, and also, I shouldn't have any issues with cracking in the wheel arches, as can happen with putting on a heavier steel bullbar while still running standard suspension.

BTW, FYI, it was on the vehicle when I bought it and no I don't have a spare $2500 to put on a different bullbar.

P.S. I am not gay - ask my wife.

P.P.S. Don't listen to EVERYTHING my wife says.
