I have been looking around for a bullbar for my 2008 GXL ...
Cheers Neil
Neil, have you made a decision yet?
Hi James,
Yes we have though things are not going to happen as soon as I was hoping but here is an update.
Well we went and looked at the TJM Bar, The top of it looked OK but the underside was a little disappointing. The biggest turn off though was the staff he barely acknowledge my wife and had no idea how recovery points would go on to the bar.
We have since had a closer look at some ARB bars as well as some discussions with suppliers and will be heading down that path. I was hoping to do it this month but we have had a few unexpected bills so it is on hold for a little bit.
Cheers Neil
White 2013 GXL 79 series dual cab, ARB GVM Upgrade, ARB Delux winch bar and scrub bars, GME TX3440 and much more to come
I must be the only PPer that has a ECB Bullbar and DOESN'T think they are completely gay.
Granted, if I was to choose a bullbar to purchase, I would probably go an ARB one, but, having said that, ECB bullbars are the strongest alloy bar going around, and also, I shouldn't have any issues with cracking in the wheel arches, as can happen with putting on a heavier steel bullbar while still running standard suspension.
BTW, FYI, it was on the vehicle when I bought it and no I don't have a spare $2500 to put on a different bullbar.
P.S. I am not gay - ask my wife.
P.P.S. Don't listen to EVERYTHING my wife says.
Madkore, i will help you buddy, i work out around were the ECB factory is and have seen quite a few ECB bars and they are not that bad, i would rate them third after the ARB and Toyota bar as far as looks go and you are right they look pretty well built.

Neil,
you wont go wrong with an ARB bar. I can thoroughly reccomend them and their protection capabilities. Also the bash plates that are fitted as part of the bar are worth their weight in gold.
Black 2008 D4D GX, Bolle tint, Airtec snorkel, Hayman Reese tow bar, Staun deflators, ARB Air, front & rear extended diff breathers, Milford cargo barrier, Poly Air, 2" lift, XGS suspension, road tyres - 265/65x17 Grandtreks, play tyres - 265/70x17 Wrangler MTR's, ARB Sahara Bar, TMax 9000 winch, custom winch panel, Uniden UHF, Garmin 76csx with RAM mount, Eee PC with OZI, triple IPF 900XS spotties, rear ARB diff locker, Brown Davis underbody protection, Darren McRAE Auto Craft Rock Sliders
I don't mind the look of the Iron man bars, not sure about that quality compared to the ARB ones though, but yeah I'm in the same situation as most people by the looks ..... choices choices
The under protection of the ironman doesn;t look as good as the ARB one, however i do like the round upper bar over the square - it just looks neater to me when you fit larger spotties. The price of these is also very attractive, I was quoted $1600 arb winch bar and another $400 for the spot lights. Ironman bar with a winch and lights is only $2200 atm
Just thought i'd throw this up to add a little more confusion
There are a few of us on PP who have Ironman bars. The selling point for me was that these are a good looking bar without the weight of the ARB units. Obviously not as heavy duty a bar but that suits us. The under bar panels are fine except (at least with mine) there was no panel between the bar and the radiator, much the same as the factory bar. As per others I made that up out of a piece of alluminium chequer plate and now all good, only about an hours work.
The Ironman bars are definately worth a look and are good value for money, I had the bar and snorkel fitted for about the ARB price for bar alone without fog lights. I have heard that quality can be a bit hit and miss but mine is good and no complaints. By the way I opted for driving lights instead of fogs.

Ookami I guess that question is directed at anyone with a polished top bar and the answer from my experience is yes. At various times during the day the sun reflection off the top was also pretty annoying but never dangerous. I was going to paint the inner side matt black so I put some flat vinyl contact on the loops to check how much needed to be blacked out. The vinyl worked so well and adhered beautifully so I haven't bothered to do the painting. The painting would of course require masking, etch primer, primer then top coat. The vinyl went on in a couple of strips about 50mm wide so I could stretch it around the bar contour. Not perfect but you cannot notice the layers from inside and I think good enough. That was a year ago. Cannot remember what the product was called but you can buy the vinyl per m at signwriters and it cost me $7.

The TJM temptation was just too great for me. I just purchased the T15 alloy bar and had a snorkel supplied and fitted free. All up cost? just over $2K. I now have change left over to purchase a pair of lightforce 240s. I am happy with that. Having read the pros and cons regarding alloy vs steel (my gq has alloy and I give it a hiding) I agree with most comments, however I chose the alloy again. I will post pics in my build up once it stops raining and I can get out there to take a pic.
oops! all for the wife of course.
I have a TJM type 15 steel bar, recon its the ducks nuts, has a heavy duty winch cradle, imp I thinks its mounting systems is better engineered than the ARB winch bar

Hi All,
I have been looking around for a bullbar for my 2008 GXL and have got a series of prices. I was tossing up between the Dealer supplied Sovereign bar and an ARB Delux steel one. There is a wealth of information on the forum about the choice between the two so I am not trying to restart a thread on that. What happened today was though I rang TJM at O'connor to find out the prices of theirs as an option.
Well the prices were pretty much the same and I was going to cut them out of the equation until the sales person mentioned the special they have on until the end of January. If you get the type 15 bar in January you can choose an option to go with it.
Steel: A recovery kit or under bonnet compressor (fitted)
Alloy: A heavy duty duty recovery kit or a snorkel (fitted)
Now a snorkel is one of the the things that I have on my wish list and to get one for the same price and at the same time as the bullbar is very tempting. I have seen the post on the Airtech snorkel but I have not seen much comment on the TJM alloy bars. Does anyone have any thoughts on these bars good or bad?
Cheers Neil

Hey yetiboy01 - what type of spot lights do you have - I'm looking at lightforce, but yours seem to fit okay in the space.

Prado BB the lights just fit in the bar with the lenses protruding past the front of the bar by about 5mm, couldnt mount them any further back in the bar as the back of the lights hit the top loop, you would probaly have the same problem with the large light force lights
