    Ah I see!
I thought your head unit was mounted further up towards the ashtray.
Do you have any probs reaching it? (Not while moving!)
Is the white screen above the UHF? a reverse camera one? Can you run the external screen for the icom thru it?

Yeah, I'm a gadget man - I'd put flashing lights on my Border Collies if they'd let me. :-)

Nah - it's fine, have to lean over a bit to use the power button and the other buttons on the left hand side. The arm rest in the centre console comes in handy here.

Yep it's the reverse camera screen, I could run the Icom through it but it would be pointless as it's smaller than the Icom and it's a cheap and cheerful off fleabay so the quality wouldn't be there.

Hope to get the other photos together this weekend.

Haven't heard of anyone doing that, but I guess it would be very easy given the input capability of the sat nav system.

Have you already ordered your IC-7000?

              Cheers,

I have had my 7000 for 6 months or so. never had the room to be able to do some HF. I have now got it in the car and the AH4 turned up yesterday and the antenna is due by the end of the week.
Got Thursday off so hope to get it all fitted by then.

Mate that's awesome - best of luck with it.

I finally found my AH-4 installation photos.

The three cable glands I installed behind the number plate holder. Earth, RF co-ax and control cable.

The earth bond point inside the door, the left cable goes to a earth bond point on the body inside the rear quarter panel. I can't emphasise enough the importance of good earthing - particularly when antenna tuners are involved. (I've been bit before)

The antenna tuner showing my custom made brackets. I've designed these brackets to line up with the original mounting bolts of the spare wheel carrier. Notice the cut out to keep as much distance between the HV RF and the bracket/body.

Don't forget to waterproof the spare carrier bolts when you re-install them. I used silastic on the threads.

One snag I had when initially testing was RF getting into the control head cable on 14MHz. Easily fixed using a ferrite core on the control head cable at the unit end. One of the plastic snap on type are perfect for this.

I now have a set up where I park the Toyota next to my camper trailer and run a longer control head cable into the camper trailer so I can play radio from the comfort of the lounge. (I know, it's just not cricket!)

I haven't any photos of the tuner installed, not that there's anything to see, you have to stand at just the right angle to even get a glimpse of the tuner inside the spare carrier. It's a very snug fit, like it's built to go there.

Best of luck with the install. I'll PM you my phone number if I can help in any way.

                  Cheers,

                  Drew.

 That was my favourite show when I was a young'n. Inspector Gadget was a bit of a bonehead though, his niece and her dog did all the work. Does that mean when my daughter is old enough she can do all the work for me? I don't think so. :-)

                      Cheers,

Well spent the last couple of days getting it all fitted up. Went a lot smoother than I thought.
Hit the tune button on the IC and away we went.
Only tried in the driveway so am getting pretty poor HF at the moment. Have not been able to find anyone on to get a check from.
Can pick up marine weather on 8176 ok and had a quick listen to VKS Alice base but it was very scratchy.
I have a learning curve with the DSP filters as I have no idea how or when to use them but its going to fun finding out!

The only other thing is that I assumed ops: that it would transmit on UHF cb freqs. Tried to program them and nope wants nothing to do with it! My fault for not reading the big white book with the destructions in it!
Have been looking to see if there is a mod but does not appear to be so.
My Icom 207H has been tinkered with  to make it receive UHF so i will have to run both in the car. SWMBO is not impressed with that thought...

Still she is signed up for her foundation course in May so life will be good after that!!

As Drew will attest anyone interested in this whole radio thing should find out about doing the foundation course. Its easy and its interesting. I had a group going the other night with me (Perth)a VK3 (Melbourne) 2 english guys(one in his ice cream van!) and 2 yanks (Las Vegas and Virginia). Very cool fun.

Well all seems to be working. Just need the time to work some HF. I am having trouble too with the RF on 14MHz. I have a ferrite choke that I have tried on the radio end so I will swap it to the AH4 end.

Picked up some VK2 and 3's the other night on 14 and some on 7 as well.

I have my head unit mounted on a RAM fishfinder unit i got from BCF. Don't know if they are over east. Big fan of RAM gear. Broke my GPS mount and replace with new one no probs. Lifetime warranty.

                                Hi Bryce,

Like your custom bracket for your HF antenna. Looking at something similar for my new car.

Where did you end up mounting the AH-4? did you just put it on the pole underneath your antenna?

                                Cheers,
