Not sure on the static load, but I know many of us have been up ontop of our roof racks and we weigh more than 100kg.

The driving load is 100 kg but that should include the wieght of the rack and/or rails and cross bars, so that normally brings it down to around 80kg. This should be in your owners book if you still have it.

With factory rails, it's 80kg. The 80kg includes the additional crossbars required to support the tent.

If factory rails are replaced with 3 crossbars, it's 100kg. The 100kg includes the 3 crossbars. The 3 heavy duty crossbars weigh 7.5kg.

I got an ARB style one on mine and it is fantastic. From memory the loadings are to cover the load at 130km/h so parked static the loading is not a problem

            Re: roof top tent weight

so if the prado can only carry 100kg of weight and the tent weights 60kg how does the effect things if i weigh 95kg and my wife weighs 60 kg thats a total weight of over 200kg or do they say that just because weight triples it weight at speed .

              Re: roof top tent weight

Depends if you wish for you and your wife to be up in the tent while the Prado is being driven around.
But when you are stopped, there are no issues with having extra weight up there.

                  Re: roof top tent weight

I have just purchased a Hanibal Roof top tent.
                  The weight is 55kgs.
I already have 2 heavy duty rhino bars on my factory fitted rails.
Should I go to 3 bars, or will 2 be sufficient.

                    Re: roof top tent weight

2 is sufficient if the roof top tent is all that you are carrying. You can probably add another 20kg up there.

I have a roof top tent, spare wheel (about 30 kg), 90x12 mesh basket, ten Lt of fuel, and spare oil etc on three Rhino bars with no problems.

Chas0304 Thanks for your reply and info on your roof top weights, very much appreciated.

bitdist... Yes used it this weekend.
very pleased with it, and extremely easy and fast to set up.
While it is dearer than all the other ones. the extra quality is definately worth it IMHO. As i looked into ALL the other brands in detail.
I have mine opening on the drivers side of the vehicle, the reason being that if you have it on Rhino bars and opening to the rear, then the rear door will impede
the ladder or visa versa, ( beacause of the Prado's large rear door )
To over come this problem and to have it opening to the rear you would have to purchase from hanibal their roof top tray that accomodates it.
For me the extra price ( around $1500.00 i think ) was not worth it, even though it is of high grade aluminium and excellent construction.
You could always manufacture something to suit if you were handy enough.
I can PM you some Hanibal quality photo's of the rack set uo if you wish.
Oh ,, and one last thing. Give plenty of thought of how you are going to get it on the roof ..... It's not that easy. you would need 4 people to get it up there.
I have set up a pully system in my garage on hoist it up and then my wife reverses under it, i then just lower it down.
Im lucky in that i have plenty over over head height to be able to do that.
                            Alan
