Make a template from stiff cardboard or coreflyte. Ensure the scoop sits on the flat part of the bonnet. Don't push it too far to the rear where the bonnet skin starts to curve upwards. The front (forward) cut will not be visible once the scoop is fitted. The rear cut for me was parallel with the leading edge of the bonnet strut running east/west. The right side cut was north/south straight through front to rear from the right hand leading edge of the scoop where it dips down into the bonnet. The left cut was diagonal on a line from where the scoop left front leading edge dips down into the bonnet to a point at the rear cut directly above the original lower vent line. The rubber seal did not need to be removed just be careful with the forward cut. Mark and drill the locating bolts. The 2 forward locating bolts need to have the hole opened up where it passes through the lower bonnet skin in order to allow a deep socket to pass through. Use masking tape to secure the washers under the outer bonnet skin for these 2 bolts before assembling the scoop.

Once I had made a template I covered the bonnet in masking tape. I drew the outline of the template onto the tape. I covered the fenders, windshield and top of engine and then used an angle gringer with a very thin metal cutting blade. Once the hole was cut I then drilled the holes for the locating bolts x 5. You might consider removing the bonnet if you prefer.

Don't think I could cut into the bonnet myself so I'll be happy to find a good panel shop and let them do it.

So here's what I'm thinking, Gramps & I have silver Prado's (yes AJ the only colour to have) we get the scoops sprayed at the same time saving cost. Then I cut into Gramps's bonnet because he doesn't want to. I make a couple of little mistakes(hey no prob it's Gramps's bonnet) I learn from my mistakes and do mine perfect. Can't see any problems here.

Is there any evidence to prove this? Not saying it doesn't look good, because it does, but I wonder why Toyota did not just do this if it really did create that much more benefit? Example maybe it puts more pressure into the engine bay which in turn does not allow as much air to flow easily through the front of the radiator, which in turn has actually not helped with cooling??

The internal bonnet airway is pretty bloody hopeless when you are travelling slow, like 4wding.

The Hilux bonnet scoop would be no better either, in slow 4WDriving? And it is more likely to dump a whole lot of water over the engine in deep crossings than the standard setup?
