Oh Bugger, I bought my second hand 2008 Grande just over a week ago and I thought the hinges had just sagged a bit but now I find I have the tail gate crack issue. I got it serviced by Toyota and they said nothing about it. I think I bought a lemon. If I pay to get a new tailgate will the new one crack in time? Or should I just pay a panel shop to take it all apart weld it up and get some additional bracing welded in. It looks as if its a design fault with the car. Have the changed anything to fix this broblem in the 150? Funny how your heart sinks when you find stuff wrong with your car.

OK, I have been looking into my problem a little more. I had a dream and decided to fix it once and sir all be making an internal bracket that all the 120 owners can fit there tailgates with. It looks as if my problem has been caused by somebody slamming the door open. The bracket hits the stop abruptly and that looks as if its the reason that the door skin has cracked end frame. So a brace inside the door between the bottom hinge and the slotted guide attached to the bottom of the door should fix my problem. The crack only opens up when you push the door fully open. So I just need to get a panel beater to re spot weld or glue it/finish it the way the factory did. Bugger spending $3k on the problem only to have it happen again when some stupid kid flings the tailgate open with gay abandon. Plus I noticed the lubrication bushings on my bottom hinge appear to be made of plastic and are damaged/worn out /not fit for purpose with such massive load.

OK, pradopoint has been playing silly buggers. First the post won't submit and then eventually it works and you find you have posted three duplicate posts. Sorry Mr moderator. It was not intentional. OK those hinges, I bet a few 22 bullet casings would make better load carrying bushings. Let me know if anyone has a gun and can give me 4 spent 22 casings.

Bluebook Mate what is your location? That will help decide whom would be in a better position to help you.

Bluebook, The other thing you could do is go to CBC or SKF or a similar company that does bearings as they often have brass bearing tube in stock. Or are able to order it to the size required. Less work as you would not need to trim down cases and clean out all the gunk left in the case after being fired. They might even have some new product out that could help. I have found them to be helpful up our way.

                  SOL.

Grid, Don't know if you are still around on PradoPoint but I have to say you are a certified A1 genius!

Just followed your instructions on my 06 120 which had been bugging me for a year with the door sag thing and I cannot believe how smoothly the door closes now!!! If you're ever up Alice Springs way and see a white 06 truck flag me down, 'cause I owe you an ice cold beer (or 20). Mine will be the one with the perfectly aligned rear door

                          Hi Doug,

On mine, this is also happening.
It seems that the skin has broke away at the spot-weld.

What is the cure or fix?

Well it appears I am now also a vicitm of a saging rear door. Shut it last night and thought it was going to break off with the noise it made. Had a look at the striker plate and can see where it has been wearing. There are no signs of cracks in the door skin as per some of the pics on here.

Vehicle is going in for a service this morning so going to mention it and see what they are going to do about it. They can not just say the striker needs adjusting down as I can not see how it would work its way up so the door hinges need to be looked at.

Unfortunately the striker is not adjustable to TIGHTEN the door closed, only takes a bit of weight off the latch/ lock mechanism. Read somewhere to put some insulation tape around the latch piece on body, so did it, and drove over the same rough road and thumping/knocking noise nearly gone. Only downside is that the door sticks slightly when opening.

Anyone had any luck with getting the door repaired rather than replaced?

My perfectly fine (no sagging, etc.) door on the my 04 Grande just got ruined by my son opening it in a strong wind. Not only did it crack the weld near the bottom hinge, it also bent the bottom right hand corner of the panel on the door. Door doesn't even shut now unless I use force to lift it when closing it....

Not looking forward to the bill.......
