1kz-te Transmission pan drop and filter change

Hi,

Looking for a guide on how to drop and replace the transmission filter in the 1kz-te engine.

I have no problem just flushing the fluid but wouldn't mind doing the complete service.

Mines in a 90 but I think they're both still the 4-speed so should be same.
Helps if you have another vehicle as there's two different filters and you get differing opinions which one suits your trany. Easiest is to take in the old filter.
I dropped the oil first, there's a convenient drain plug.
Then undo all the pan bolts, drop the pan and the filter is looking at you.
A couple more bolts and the filter drops off.
The pan will have some loose magnets stuck to it so take care when cleaning it.
Your replacement filter kit will come with a new pan gasket.
Then just put it all back together.
Re-fill via the dip stick, takes around 5 litres but check on the stick with her running in park. Go through all the gears and check again.
The convertor will still have old oil and the only way to fully replace all that oil too is with a complete flush, which is usually a professional job.

Managed to do it quite easily.

Dropped the pan and replaced the filter - removed the dipstick bolts which wasn't required as it has two parts and just slides out. Was a pain in the ass getting one of the bolts back in..
Removed the old hoses into the radiator and replaced with new ones
Flicked the engine on before connecting to radiator to identify the return hose
Had someone in the car and another filling through the dipstick while I watched the auto fluid run into a container
Once it changed shade flicked it off and moved through the gears.
Filled up and took it for a run, required another fill the next day as the new fluid worked through the gears

Job went fairly easy.

NOTE: With 1KZ TE engine using the hose connection to the radiator to drain Fluide, it is the BOTTOM hose that is the return hose, not the top hose as in AMTS discussion (1KD Motor). I changed my oil today and used the top radiator hose connection only to find oil sprayed all over the engine bay and onto the driveway!!! Bugger!

I too found out the messy way that previous owners may have mixed up the hoses.
Easy way, working from the trany, the metal pipe which has the over temp sensor is oil out.
