Cheers. The only reason I went the D27M in the end was because the price I got was so rediculously cheap (staff price). Replaced the terminals with some Heavy Duty lead type terminals. Much happier.

I had the same terminal issues Craig...what brand did you get to overcome?

Both were Projecta. The ones in the pic were forged brass and I replaced with P/No BT003 Heavy Duty Lead Battery terminals with wing nuts

              Coolbanana,

Is there any advice about that battery being stored in the car and issues with venting? I am looking at putting a battery in the back in a steel box. I can't find any info on Deep cycle batteries with venting ports to attach a hose and extend out of the vehicle. Some Mazda guys run batteries in their cars and don't have problems.

Its just an empty box with wiring and a charger.
You put whatever battery you want in there.
Anything from 20Ah to 105Ah will fit in the box.

It seems to specifically NOT mention charging from 12 volt acc outlet, would there be a reason for that?

It can be charged from 240 volts and also says it can be charged via 12volt solar panel, so why not from a 12 volt outlet in the car while on the go??

Anyone know the answer as it seems like a basic requirement to be able to keep it charged while on the go?

This is currently included in a subscription offer with 4WD Action. My latest mag came with the subs order form which included the ARK PowerPack when you pay $$149.25 + $29.96 P&H with a 15 Mth subscription. Thats 55% discount if anyones after one of these....

In relation to the Optima D27F http://www.batteriesdirect.com.au/sh...2259/d27f.html, do we have to extend any cables? (D4D engine)

Would this be a good aux battery? (Going to be using a Piranha tray and like to have both cranking and deep cycle capability)

Would be looking a 120w solar panel to charge the aux when camping. (using an 80ltr Engel and a couple of LED lights)

No cabling will need to be extended with the D27F Yellow top as it is a "right hand positive" battery. I tried to get hold of this one myself but wasn't available at the time. The Optima will make an excellent aux battery and as the sales blurb states, is designed for starting and deep clcle applications. With 800CCA & 66Ah capacity, it make for an excellent choice.

Went to Blacktown Battery World today to look at the Optima yellow d27f as thanks to the excellent information on here that is the way I wanted to go, winching, better for the vibrations etc. I've never encountered such a rude assistant. (I think he was the manager) After spending over a thousand bucks in this store in the last year I expected better. I'd even bought a 12v alarm battery from him yesterday! He even got shittier when I suggested his $520 price tag was over a $100 more than elsewhere and could he do a better price. Guess who lost a customer for ever. Anyway I got it from Batteriesdirect for $410 delivered in Sydney next day. You can do a better deal from Autocraft ($380 + delivery) if in Melbourne or Tassie.

                          Cheers. Jim

I got my battery (Optima D27F) from Auto craft in Tassie. Cost $380 + $40 P/H. I will use it for the cranking battery as well when it dies as the terminals are in the same spot (don't have to extend cables).

Installed Optima D27F battery. It's a direct replacement to OE. No stuffing around with extending cables, not on D4D anyway. I haven't reconnected any of my non essential equipment yet (winch etc) as I was having issues with suspected current leaks which may have stuffed the 2 year old original. The original hold down clamp doesn't get a good enough grab on this battery in my opinion due to the staggered 'six pack' cells if going going over the rough stuff may eventually come loose. I'll use a couple of thin angles to bridge the gaps for more security.

                              Cheers, Jim
