    Anybody using these?
Allrounder MRV70L, specs seem quite good.
They are on special, delivered $209.
I know its no Optima D27F but will it do a good job for cranking and winch duties at half the price?

Its to replace my main battery for cranking and winch only, I dont have a second battery in front, all camping and fridge duties use rear batteries..

    http://www.onlinebatteries.com.au/al...70l-p-463.html

My existing OEM battery is 450 CCA which seems small and only 230mm long
My existing OEM battery tray is only 270-280 and all of the batteries discussed here are about 305 long!?!?

Is the plastic tray in mine the wrong one, are there options (petrol/diesel) or do I cut the lip on the inboard side for a larger battery?

    Cheers

(I think he was the manager) After spending over a thousand bucks in this store in the last year I expected better. I'd even bought a 12v alarm battery from him yesterday! He even got shittier when I suggested his $520 price tag was over a $100 more than elsewhere and could he do a better price. Guess who lost a customer for ever. Anyway I got it from Batteriesdirect for $410 delivered in Sydney next day. You can do a better deal from Autocraft ($380 + delivery) if in Melbourne or Tassie.

I live just down the road from this mob and I set foot in there only once and never again. Mate... the guys there were unbelievable. I told them the size and specs of my Prado battery and the guy there had the nerve to say in a really condescending tone "Are you sure? We've never heard of a prado having that size battery." When I heard that, I just walked out and said "you need to learn customer service skills all over again...". Wankers mate.

I can measure my tray and get back to you if you like? My car is stock as a rock except for the awesome air freshener.

          Thanks, that would be helpful.
Interesting to know if the diesel tray is bigger.

My tray is the same size as yours. I just cut the lip at the end of the plastic tray to accommodate my Optima battery. The actual metal tray underneath is the same size in for the petrol & diesel as I measured a mates tray when I was going through the decision process. The diesel does have the larger battery and just hangs over the edge of the metal tray (can't remember what the go was for the plastic tray on the diesel though...)

              Excellent, thanks for that

Im trying to work out whether i need a D27F since its only for cranking and the occasional winch (not that Ive got one yet) and whether a 34R would be a better choice at 1000CCA / 55AH and smaller and lighter?
The Allrounder MRV70L is an alternative as it has the bonus of RH+ and double terminals, 760CCA / 105AH which optima doesnt seem to do
              What to do!?!?!?

Which ever way you go, be aware that the Optima Red tops aren't designed for deep cycling applications. As I don't currently have a dual battery system, I went for the Optima D27 with deep cycle capability. (D34 would of sufficed but the price I got it for was too good to turn down) That way if it was run flat for any reason, the Yellow/blue tops have the advantage of recovering without damage.

                        • Thanks, I do like the twin terminals on the D27M however I am told the D27F is the battery for winching...

After 8 months and a bit of offroading my clamp on D27F hasn't moved any so am going to leave it for now.
As far as I know the D27's are the same battery, just the terminals are different, blue for marine applications and yellow more suited for cars. No need to alter the cables or clamps on D4D if you go with yellow top. (See post 89) You can always replace the clamps with more outlets.

                            Cheers, Jim.

Mine fits perfectly, no problems at all. The blue top has been fine for winching so far, time will tell though!

                              • My local Rays sells D27Ms, guess what I'll be buying next 20% off weekend. With the 20% off makes it $320.

Looking at the D27M the terminals are at the front, do you have to extend the cables in a D4D to get it to fit?
