    Re: Dual battery trays

    Hi Leigh,

What brand and size 2nd battery are you using?
ARB have told me they use Optima (Yellow Top), but haven't told me which model.

      Hi Stuart,

It's a piranha tray, currently have a Century N70Zm Marine Pro 600. I will be changing this to
a yellow top D27M in the near future.

      Cheers

        Re: Dual battery trays

I have a 2005 120 series with a second battery behind the driver's headlight. After some tough driving on Fraser Island I discovered that the driver's side front guard had moved towards the motor by about 5mm. Enough to make the bonnet ride up over the guard on the driver's side. I am surmising that the extra weight of the second battery coupled with some pounding (I was shocked because I did not treat the vehicle harshly at all) has allowed the inner guard to bend in and has dragged the outer guard with it. I can not see any cracking of metal at this stage.

I also would be interested if others are finding this.

          Re: Dual battery trays

I would not be surprised that this has happened. I'm currently moving my diff breathers to make
room for a Racor filter. Diff breathers are mounted on the passenger side firewall. I'm using the
inner most two unused screws and was surprised to find if you pull on the screws with only moderate
pressure the metal flexes out. The fire wall metal is very thin as is the inner guard, Toyota must have
used recycled beer cans to keep the weight down

          Cheers

I am in the process of installing the Offroad Downunder tray to my 2004 V6. The instructions say to cut off two of the power steering reservoir mounts and then to modify the third mount. My problem is that I can't work out which of the two mounting legs to cut off. Can anyone help?

I have just competed the installation of a Piranha tray to my late 07 petrol Prado. Tray took about 1 hour to install and I had to make up an additional bracket for the air conditioning.
The mount for the power steering reservoir is also a bit ordinary so I welded it in place to the battery tray. Works great..

Not long after I bought my tray, Offroad Downunder release a new model, with holes cut in the side, where it mounts to the wall of the engine bay, looks much better and easier to install, would be a little lighter too.

My tray, from memory cost around $165.00, but that was nearly 6 months ago now...

I just received mu outback down under tray ('08 120 d4d). Very happy with it. Solid as a rock and very easy install. The inner gaurds in the Prado are very thin indeed...barely needed a drill bit to push through it. I reckon I could have just pushed a hole through with my screwdriver.

After much deliberating my wife has made the decsion for me with regards to which battery tray I am going to put in the Prado. She supprised me yesterday with a Piranha tray for my birthday.
Am looking forward to installing it on the weekend. After reading others reviews it shouldn't take long at all.

Well I have not had a chance to mount my Piranha tray into my pertol Prado but did have a bit of a look today to see what is involed and have a couple of queries that I am hoping might get an answer on here.

                      1) What am I supposed to do with the wring loom that has to be unclipped from the inner guard to allow the "L" shape bracket to be bolted on?
                      2) The small earth strap that has to be remounted out of the way, just where have others mounted theirs?

I did have fun trying to find where the "4" is stamped (those who have one of these trays will know what I mean)

Looking forward to any assistance anyone can will be very much appreciated

Ive been planning to do the second battery but Im now worried about the cracking guard situation.
I have a 2003 Grande and from what Im reading, its the early models like mine that have issues here, especially petrol where the battery mounts behind the drivers side headlight?

Whats the best tray or alternative for a second battery on the early models or dont I have a choice?

Well had a go at trying to fit my new Pirahna tray into a petrol Prado and have to say it is still not in. There was two of us trying to follow the instructions/ picture but jusgt could not get things to fit real nice.
I will post some pics once I get them off the camera but if there is anyone who has a picture of a Pirahna tray without the battery that would be appreciated.

Went to the local TJM store where my Pirahna tray came from, trying to get a better understanding of just how it all should fit. I was told they have never fitted one into a Prado, so no help there.

I do want to say a big thanks to "two+four" as he sent me a couple of pics and this has been a big help so will have another go at trying to fit it this weekend.

A cheaper way out that i found for my 2006 diesel was to spend the morning in the shed and fabed a tray up out of a bit of plate, sits behind the drivers side head light, more solid than whats on the market, added extra mounting points, cost $10 for some scrap plate and a morning of my time, just managed to fit in a CAT 770cc battery and $30 for a solarnoid to connect it all up.
