    Thats insane.
I think my problem is with the roof mounted DVD player that is wired into the same circuit as the interior lights.
Having constant power to it enables the kid to leave it on....
I think ill remove it... Seriously who watches DVDs these days anyway?
The diode's work a treat, gets around 13.6-14V, and are worthwhile if you have a second.

With the DVD player, just buy a DC-DC relay on ebay and wire up the ignition wire to the relay so it can only have power when the car is on...

no worries, you can get them on ebay - like this
        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-DC-Bo...ht_2970wt_1397

you just need to run a separate wire from your ignition (find it with a voltmeter) to the relay switch then power it though the relay. Plenty of wiring info online if you are not sure.

How do you use 2 diodes? or is there a diode that increases 1.2 volts verses 0.6 volts ?

Can someone put up a link to the diodes on eBay? I don't really know what I'm looking at.
            Thanks in advance,

I think it depends on where you buy your Prado. From toyodiy.com, it shows that there are (were) three OEM types of alternators:

                    27060‑30050 12V 80A
                    27060‑30060 12V 100A, COLD SPEC
                    27060‑30070 12V 130A, DENMARK SPEC&COLD SPEC

The way I read it, the 80A is fine for most countries. The 100A is for use in cold climates, and for some reason the Danes feel that their cold is colder than the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, so they get 130A.

Someone else would have to say whether or not you could install a 130A alternator in a car that is in a warm climate without damaging anything, or whether even doing so would add anything of use.

The Prado Manuals I have (on CD) for models 2004 - 2008, show for all Aust models, Alternator output is 960 watts (80 amps)

the 130Amp sounds nicer though as an upgrade...

Does anyone happen to know, if my original alternator is the 80amp version, can I put the 100amp or even the 130amp in there without hurting anything? That's to say, can I just drop it in there, or are there other items that I will then have to replace?

                            Swapping out an 80 with a 100 shouldn't be a problem, swapping out an 80 with a 130
might. You would need to look to look at the output wire for the alternator and determine
if it can handle the extra current. You would also need to replace the fusible link for
the alternator and also determine if the contacts/connectors for the fusible link can
                            handle the extra current.

                            Cheers

Excellent, thanks - I think I'll stick with the 80amp... don't want to go spending extra money for unknown benefits and chance of damaging other things. Not the time of year in Prague to be trying to peer under the hood (minus 12 and snowing).

Keep in mind, that simply increasing the size of your alternator will not change how much the car actually draws from the alternator.
