Which wreckers did you use - might have to check it out...

    Matt
I think you will find that they added this fan to all models with the D4D, mine has it as standard anyway (2009)

    Cheers Andrew

As you can see it's plug and play from this end.

Now the tricky part, the relay has all the wiring fitted to the fuse box except the earth to activate the relay so for now I have used a normal 40A relay and wired in a earth. When I get time to remove the box assembly I will add the earth to it along with the right relay, new the relay is about $90 but a trip to the wreckers will sort that out for about $30.

Does it make a difference? Just got back from a trip up north and it was very cold in the cabin and the extra air flow to the condenser and radiator seem to help. Main reason for doing it was to help with cooling as there is the usual stuff we all bolt to bull bars reducing air flow.
      Cheers Nick.

Is the fan about 10 inches in diameter ?

Mate, you made me go and measure it, geeze, it's 11" inches in diameter, the fan that is Thats at the shroud, hope that helps.

Re: Adding a condenser fan to GXL

Yesterday was about 36 degrees in Adelaide and I decided to do this mod
            http://paulpickford.com/prado/
Before doing it the temp, at the vent with the system on recirc and fan set to 2, the engine reving at 2000, it was 10 degrees.
After the mod I was getting 5 degrees with the compressor cutting in and out. The temp, went between 5 and 9 degrees, compressor and and off. Must say it's bloody cold in the car now not that I had any problems to begin with.

Re: Adding a condenser fan to GXL

Job done, easy as. Just add factory relay in fuse box and plug becomes powered. Earth it and take power of A/C switch wiring.

Wired mine alittle different. Once I fitted a relay to the box in the Condenser Fan relay spot, I got power at the bigger plug shown in the first picture. I used a Supercheap 10 inch fan and I also wanted it running all the time, so I grabbed power from the larger plug (along with 10amp inline fuse) and earth as well. If I have any issues, I may change plugs in the future.

                Works great.

Checked air vent temp. 2000rpm, fan set at two. Using crap $14 temp probe from dick smiths, while compressor on got down to 6.7 degrees C. Good enough for me, 26 outside humid and about to rain.

Being A Air cond mech by trade i know the advantages of having the Condenser cooled more effeciently on a warmer day improves performance..However the only down side is that over-condensing on "normal" days will cause the system to under perform. In saying that i have a pre d4d gxl and with the recent warm days in "The Gong" (33-36 degrees) i was getting 4 degrees out of the front vents with fan speed of 2 and on fresh!!! go figure..I would love to source one of these fans and wire it to assist in engine cooling whilst using SWMBO's car in the bush

There's an easier way, the other plug (4 wires) near the fan plug is supposed to plug into a pressure switch for the dual zone ac. The white wire with the black trace is the earth, the blue wire runs to the relay earth in the fuse box, just join the blue wire to the white with a black trace, and this completes the circuit.
I also stole the relay from the fog lights, for the fan and now all works as intended.
The fan cuts in and out with the ac clutch

When I'm done with the mod which will allow the relay to work (OEM relay) there will be an update with pics posted in this thread. Bacically it involves removing the fuse box near the engine and installing a ground wire to allow the relay to work (well with my car anyway) My advice is to check for relay activation power where the relay lives (they are the small spade terminals, look at a simular relay located in the box) when the A/C is on. Then turn A/C off and make sure there is no power. The other terminals (large) are fan supply, 1 With power + the other to the fan. Hope that makes sense.
I know this is an old post, but it still helped me sort it out.

Is this fan a standard fit on later GXL 120s? Mine is a August 2008 and has it?

Yes standard onthe later models, I would suspect from the late 2006 update.

Same here, trade and Ac temp results with the 2003 GXL. Worked well in Kings Canyon on 45 deg days and Marble Bar at
47 deg. Clutch on radiator fan fully locked and really moved some air.
