    Thanks Matt,
I thought I had stuffed something with the Windows but that has done the trick.
regarding the Spotlights not working are you saying I should just wire up a parker globe to the H4 plug and leave it on when the headlights are on?
I guess it wouldn't generate much heat!
Ill give it a crack, seems easier than re wiring the spotties.
    Thanks Again!

I just didn't have the time to muck around re wiring my spotties.
I took the car to an auto electrician, 1 hour later they had the job done. Cost me $90.00.

AJ, those H4 dual arc bulbs look like the answer!

Where did you find the system?

The only legal way (if that is a concern...unfortunately for some its not!) is to replace your headlights with a complete HID light and housing. ADRs state that HID lights must be auto levelling and I think some states require a headlight washers? This is to ensure your vehicle does not dazzle oncoming drivers/vehicles

The retro fit kits from either Aust or overseas all state that they are for Off-road only yet sell them marketed at road vehicles, this covers their legal requirements but not for you.

In all probability, most people will get away with retro-fitting HID. Unless you piss off a copper or RTA inspector.

Very interesting case is unfolding where a HID retro fitted vehicle was involved in a MVA, witnesses claim excessive glare was the cause. Due to the non-compliance of the HID retrofit and non-compliance with ADR (in a number of areas) the vehicle has potentially void all insurance cover. The point they are picking on in the HID retrofit. Interesting times to see how the insurance companies act on this.

Here is an interesting read on HID, a few years old but still has some relevant points

Think I might only do the spotties, got IPF fatboys for the headlights.

Anyway its on country roads most times you need the spotties and not for city driving. Keeps it all legal I suppose

              Hi Spurio,
I just read that article, very informative, a good read. The Main Hi/Lo beam HID conversions using standard reflectors will be drawing the attention of authorities one hopes in the not far distant future, they are a pain in the proverbial, even when standing beside the road.

                    Hey guys,

This may be an obvious question, but what are the advantages going Bi-xenon 4 balast (H4-4 hi/lo) vs the telescopic 2 balast setup (H4-3 hi/lo)?

Seeing as there is a warm up time for the HID's, wouldn't the telescopic kit be better for the switch between low and high beam? Is there actually a light performance difference between the two?

And just another question... Does everyone have a rubber boot like richo in this pic? Because I haven't got them on either side??

Re: HID Bi-Xenon High/Low Beam Installation

Hi folks - here is one for the electrical brains trust to solve please. I have 2 sets of spots on the Prado - Lightforce XGTs and Ironman 55W spots both have there own dedicated circuit, relays, fuses and switches. All wired up and working with the standard light set up - no problems. All operating legally with the spots going on and off when the light switch dipped etc. So I figure I got that bit right. Install HID H4 Hi /Lo dual ballast system - HID lights work fine on high and low beam - very well infact. No change to the spotlight wiring. Here is the rub - switch to high beam and the XGTs may come on or the low beam HID may come on as well as the HID high beam without the XGTs, never both the XGTs and the low HID beam. More often than not the HIDs will work and the XGTs wont. The Ironman lights almost always come on. Checked the connections, fuses and the relays - all fine. I must be missing something obvious here but I dont know what - is it the high voltage surge that upsets the relays? Perhaps there is someone who could help solve this electrical conundrum for me?
