If you have any doubt about your injectors change them out! Unless you have $18K or Toyota Extended New Car Warranty.
Nothing else needed to say really, oh other than have a nice day.

Originally posted by frederick View PostUpdate on my D4D injector issues, as stated earlier car was taken to Diesiel specialists in Matherson Street Virginia QLD late Monday afternoon forTuesday am injector replacement, glow plug test and replacement if required, Inlet manifold carbon cleanout etc, and (not my choice but part of the job ) new fuel lines as well. Got the call today stating that car will be required for an extra day as they had trouble removing one of the injectors due to seal leak. When i spoke to Steve the owner he said that they looked like the original injectors as they had copper washers still fitted and that was why the seal had leaked. Apparently they had to make a puller to remove the stuck injector. Inlet manifold was shitty as expected but no more that others they had cleaned so after 180,000 ks you could say that was a reasonable run for the original injectors. Sounds like it was a good move (albeit costly) on my part to get the injectors replaced as it appears car was due to fail in the near future. As soon as i get the car back i will drop the sump and check the oil pickup screen before hooking up the caravan and heading away. Diesel Specialists asked me if the ECU had been reflashed? i don't know and how can i tell as apparently car will need to go to toyota for this. Can anyone else undertake the ECU reflashing??.
I will keep the thread updated once i get the car back and i can compare the engine performance power wise and economy wise when towing my caravan.
cheers to all.
Your stuck injector just reminded me of one i had a few years ago.
When i was at Mazda, we had to do injectors and pump on a BT-50 that had had a very hard life & had eaten a tank full of almost dirty water looking diesel.
It had been in a lot of mud & had always been hosed down, but never blown off with air to dry anything. As the injectors are recessed in the head a little, water had sat in there and seized the injectors into the head. We got the first three out in about 4 hours, but one was stuck solid.
Used penetrants and made up a jig to clamp the injector so we could pull it.
Ended up with the engine crane trying to pull it upwards & the front wheels were up about 6 inches off the ground.
We left it like that overnight & it refused to budge.
Ended up having to pull the head & send it.
I love the power and economy benefits that all of the late model diesels give, but i miss the simplicity of repairs on the older ones.
Regards, Jason.

Funny Story on that one Jason. All the Bosch units are not in the engine oil gallery (ie under the tappet cover) which means they can't seize engines like the Denso / Toyota system, but it certainly does pose a bunch of other problems... The local Fiat / Citroen / other Euro trash basically gets one of our guys around EVERY time because you can bet you guts, one will need to be pulled apart in situ so we can get a slidehammer / puller assembly screwed into the internal threads (and it sounds like it had no chance of solving your issues above)... Anyway, point is, its been a 100% strike rate so far on EVERY Bosch equipped vehicle we've seen.
Last sentence = yep

Hi all, more injector info for you. My 07 VX began the old white smoke / diesel knock. When looking at the pick up as discussed on here and found some carbon as per the pics, cleaned it up and took it to Toyota to have the injectors changed out. Numbers 3 and 4 were stuck in the head because of carbon but all good and changed out now. Local dealer was awesome $2800 later but car has only done 162000 klm and I only brought it at 145000. Anyway all good now. Here are some pics of the pick up and injectors.

Which dealer did you use Matt. If they did a good job, give them a nod.

Ok Perth people, need a recommendation for a good diesel injection service. My injectors are getting noisy again! Want to get it looked at before we head to the Kimberley in a week or so. Might have to spend a bit more time in Perth than I'd hoped. Can't we just keep travelling?
