CHIPIT Feedback

Now before everyone starts yes I'm well aware of the Chipit saga.

What I'm after is feedback from those that have actually purchased and used a chip for their 2008 model D4D.

For those that did, have you had any issues with chip when used on a mild setting, if so were they resolved by Chipit?

Did you do the fuel pressure mod.

Is the chip still performing ok?

As above please not looking to start world war 3, I purchased a chip when the were first offered and haven't installed to date, just after actual user feedback from those with the same model as mine on how the chip performs.

I too have one still in the box. I thought you had to install the fuel limiter disc to ramp up the pressure otherwise it won't do anything. At least the EGT monitor works.

EGT been going for nearly 5 years now.

I installed mine for about 3 months but took it out because of the high fuel rail pressure which caused very loud injector rattle when cold. Also the harness was wired incorrectly when I first got the unit, thought the engine would blow up when I first started the engine.

I never had a chip installed on my car (also a d4d) but with all the injector problems would you really want to fit a....let's call it, not so perfect product. Bit risky but I guess it's an individual's choice.

if so were they resolved by Chipit?

My understanding is that "Chipit" no longer exists. I gather they closed the business but then restarted it in the same location with the same people selling the same product under a different name.

Read into that what you will

There was a separation in the ways of the original team from memory, one is called chip tuning I think. They werent part of the chip it 'thing'

I think If I was going to install any chip in my d4d I would look at the safe option of the steinbauer. But in reality I'm happy with the get up and go my girl is putting out.

CHIPIT Feedback

I just got a second hand DP chip.. Their customer service is so good they will check and test the chip for me before I fit it..

I have the Tune It chip. So far 180000 km and no problems. Had the injectors replaced at 150000 by talk the Roo. John did a great job.
Tried different settings but have settled on setting 5. This chip has the added advantage of making the car change gears ( auto) lower in the rev range. Now can use 2800 when towing the camper up hills without the gearbox changing to a lower gear and revving high.

I bought and installed both Chipit chip and egt some 4 years ago.
First chip had intermittent issues whit starting, got it replaced within a day via express post.
All working without any issues since then on medium setting it came with (from memory setting 5 but not sure)
Had new injectors before the chip went in at 50k km, now I am at 108k km, injector feedback values are not brilliant but still ok.
No rattle or smoke
Overall happy with it

Just out of interest and a little off topic (and even may have been covered before);

The EGT chip cut out can be fitted to any diesel module/chip that can be switched off and still allow the engine to run (DP/Steinbauer etc etc)
You can use the same temperature control module that Chipit did. (AUBER out of the US, sub $100)
Simply program one alarm for a buzzer (optional) and one slightly higher up to switch the chip/module off.
For example; 650 degrees the buzzer sounds and 700 degrees the module switches off and the vehicle defaults back to factory tune.

So my Auberin gauge can do this or do I need another bit (switch off the chip). Sorry I have a headache so no make sense.
