  • 120 series old style diesel engine swap for a d4d

I have done a search in regards to shaping a d4d engine into a 120 series prado with no luck. I am sure it has been done and there would be a post on it here some place on this site. Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Do what? (Shaping?). The 120 has been fitted with a D4D since 2006 mate.

As the 1kz are sought after tough vehicle, sell it for good coin.
          Then buy a 1kd d4d cheap.
There are cheap ones around, because many peeps think selling the vehicle with worn injectors & buying a new vehicle s a better option than spending 2-3k on what's really routine maintenance every 5 years.
Ends up costing them a whole lot more, & the new vehicle is a CRD too, so funny stuff.

The more sensible swap would be to replace the 1kd with a 1 kz. Wouldn't touch a common rail until the problems have been proven to be fixed permanently, not a stop gap measure. The old slug may use slightly more fuel but goes forever. With the reported problems with ALL brands with common rail, I would be more inclined to go back to petrol unles you were towing heavy loads all the time. Less oil changes, no need to spend $$$$$$$ on replacing injectors frequently etc.

If its a manual gear box: new motor new engine harness new main harness
              Auto: new engine, box, wiring,
Tail shafts on the auto not sure
Engine brackets are the same so no modifying there
Pretty much a unbolt bolt in job
              1KD/1KZ blocks are the same
