9.3 litres/100km along the freeway into Perth at 100km/hr. Looks like the fuel consumption has settled down. The pickup has improved too.

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.
As part of my VCAT presentation I referred to the injector seals, the recall by Toyota Europe and the lack of a recall by toyota Australia. Local service manager responded that it was procedure to replace the seals at the 40K, 80K etc service AT THE SAME TIME AS THE VALVE CLEARANCES WERE CHECKED. It seems to me that this puts the cost of replacement back to the owner rather than Toyota as in a recall. It was also my understanding that clearances were more commonly checked audibly rather than actually measured. More costs?
There's no mention of replacing seals at 40k on my service documents. So how would you know if it was done. All the usual replacement parts and sundries are listed.

40k service on my 150, no seals changed and audible check only on clearances. Senior Service tech recons you can tell if the D4D has the revised seals from the factory from the VIN.

is that the same document that was attached on this thread before??
If not it would be good to see if my VIN has had the new seals installed.
Just joined the forum after a google search of the issue I have noticed in my d4d. Thanks to all those who have taken the time to respond to others with advice in this thread already, it has been very helpful.
Does anyone know if the injectors are covered by used car statutory warranty? I have had the prado for a month now and the rattle in the mornings is quite loud. I just want to make sure I play my cards right before presenting the vehicle to the dealership for assistance. I also opted to take the extended warranty on it for 3 years but I know those warranties aren't anything special.
Depending on KMs, if the car hasn't reached the point that Toyota recommend replacement, and they are malfunctioning now, I would argue that this should be covered under warranty because they haven't seen all of their Manufacturer recommended useful term of life. I don't own a D4D and haven't experienced this issue so this is just my opinion though!

Thanks in advance for any help!
The extended warranty from Toyota (Swann Insurance) in my case saved me $11,800 in repairs after my engine failure due to 2 injectors going out of spec at only 73,000km. I never had any major rattle other than the slightly noisier starts on those cooler mornings. You might be lucky and have them covered under the basic warranty but, either way, you should get the injectors looked at if only for the piece of mind at knowing they are within specification if the rattle is that bad.

I also have a nice rattley D4d when cold 134k on the clock
Toyota NZ are currently running a special for Hi-lux D4d owners with new injectors fitted with fuel pipes etc for $1200
(apparently subsisided from Toy Japan) - applies to all D4-d engines at any mileage
Spoke to them and they will cover Prado also - so have mine lined up for a new set tomorrow
Update - Dealer was short on work this afternoon and called me to drop the wagon off early. Long story short - New Denso (DLC) injectors fited, with seals, gaskets, fuel pipes, ecu/inj's coded all done for $1199.
Engine is completely different low down power is dramatically improved - engine is near on dead silent
Installed Racor 2 micron filter between new oem filter and pump, also dropped tank, cleaned pick up (was black and 1/2 blocked with diesel bug - although rest of tank was clean)

Happy Prado owner tonight
Rick, any chance of getting a TSB number or such like from the dealer so local Aus owners can use this as a reference to what Toyota NZ is doing?
A side note, couldn't believe how much cheaper diesel is in NZ compared to Aus. $1.40/ltr NZ compared to $1.50/ltr AUS.......I know who is getting ripped off and it aint you guys!!!
