    Re: 1kz chip facts

Have had the DP unit in for the last 6000 k's and towed the 2 1/2 tonne van up north for 2000k. Has made a big difference towing, and now has more guts over 110 kph when needed. Have just refilled the tank for the second time (not towing) and got 1780 klm's and 1720klm's to the tank full. 172 ltrs first time and 174 ltr's second fill. Used to get around 1450 klm's for the same fuel useage. Go figure, surprises me greatly but they are the figures. Total mileage is 158,793 klms and still going strong.
As an aside, I have been using AIR COOLED 2 stroke oil at 800 mill to tankfull for the last 18000 klms and the rattle sounds are much reduced and NO oil smoke or any extra diesel soot down the side of van. So far, all good.

John that's good feedback, I assume you have the D4D? What's the "air cooled" 2 stroke oil? Is that a brand or a procedure?

2003 1KZ 120 model. the old banger, 3.0 ltr, been around for years.
You can use the same oil / diesel mix for the d4d also.
The "air cooled " 2 stroke oil is added to the fuel tank when refuelling, I use the cheapest available from AutoPro, Repco or wherever I can get it at the time. Get the 5 ltr bottle and measure it into a 1 ltr bottle and keep in the car ready for next topup.

Wow! and you get that sort of mileage? I too have the "old banger" and get nowhere near what you're getting  . So you put 1 litre of oil to how much diesel? Sorry for the questions ops: .

I should have been more specific, sorry.
It has to be the air cooled 2 stroke oil as it is designed to mix with fuel. The "water cooled motor" 2 stroke oil (jet skis etc) is mainly injected and not designed to mix as per lawn mower air cooled oil.
The mix is supposed to be 400 : 1.
I use approx 800 mil to 160 ltrs without any problems

Yep, I was very surprised as well. Noticed an improvement before the chip, when I started adding the 2 stroke 10,000 k's ago, and think I don't drive it as hard now either, as on the both tank refills I cruized around 90 -95 KPH instead of the usual 110 KPH.
Used to get approx 600k's to 160 ltr with van on at 100 + KPH and this trip slowed down to 90-95 KPH with van on and now get 800+ to 160 ltr.
Lead foot = empty tank/wallet ops:

Just had a chat with the guys at Chipit, (turns out they are in Perth aswell). Their chip seems almost too good to be true. Claiming increases between 35-50% at nearly half the price of the likes of dp. He seemed to know what he was talking about on the blower, and it sounds like there is a fair bit of extra stuff that you can do with it. i.e. 3G capabilities for remote tuning and security. Only they arent ready for the 150 yet as they had some teething problems. He reckons a couple of weeks away. Anybody had any real world experience with Chipit chips?

A friend has had one installed on his 200 series TD and he is pleased as. He went down the path of having it tuned to match and also had chips insrtalled into his Hino work trucks and said this is the best chip he has ever had. He had previously used DP chips in both his old 100 series (I believe) as well as Hilux and other vehicles.

Bugger. I've just been in contact with Chip It again in regards of a chip to suit the 1KZ 120 series and this is the reply:

                          Sorry Nick

Only the petrol injection is going to be offered for some time

                          Much much better results.

Info about it is on the chip it website if you are interested

                          Cheers

One thing I have noticed is that the Chip only operates off accelertor pedal not on criuse control. Fuel economy for first part of trip was 16lit/100km haven't refuelled from return trip yet.
Mate, what you said (above) is not quite correct. I was also under the mistaken impression that the DP34 chip only works off the accelerator pedal position and therefore becomes inactive when the pedal is released under cruise control. So I rang up DP chip and asked about it. The "tech" that I talked to was most helpful. He explained that the signal from the accelerator pedal is the least important signal to the DP chip. The first priority signal comes from the connection to the spill valve at the injection pump and the chip responds to load as measured at the pump; adjusting timing and volume according to the need of the engine at the time. The signal to the chip from the accelerator (pedal) is only an extra boost for when a bit more juice becomes necessary such as dragging the van up a long hill or in 4WD on hilly terrain. I wasn't quite satisfied with this explanation, but since I will be fitting my DP chip tomorrow, It won't be long before I find out for myself.

                            Cheers
