Caltex lube support mentioned that CXJ will no longer be manufactured and that the Delo 400 is actually a more advanced oil. Just passing on what I've been told

Might be worth giving them a call yourself and if anything like my discussion with them you will be advised to use Delo 400

        Hi all,

I am currently using Delo 400 on my D-4D. I have only done the one oil change (last week 5,000km) and it was real easy (minister approved funds for correct tooling). Have done about 1,000km since then and no real issues.
        Regards,

i work for a toyota dealer in north brisbane and i also look after the oil levels and the oil ordering.

toyota do use caltex as a genuine supplier, but the oils we buy at toyota you cant buy from repco or supercheap (or anywhere on the market)

for VVTI engines we use TGMO (toyota genuine motor oil) 10w-30
which is a oil refined by caltex but they also add specific additives for toyota that dont get added to your supercheap special.

for late model turbo diesels and non vvti engines we use TOYOTA P/D OIL (Petrol and Diesel) 10w-30, it is the same concept as vvti that you cant buy it from anywhere but toyota.

if i was to use a non genuine oil in any turbo diesel i bought i personly would use a semi synthetic oil such as caltex delo 400 10w-30 or Penrite HPR diesel 10w-30.

                Great to know.

I have decided to use Penrite HPR Diesel 5 in mine. It is a 5W-40. Plan to run this for the life of the car, only done 6500 km so far. Will see how it pans out over the next 200,000 km.

I'll give a detailed report then if anyone is interested

Toyota changed the oil on saturday and on the invoice it states that they used castrol magnatec proffesional. Dont know if its the same as the castrol magnatec that supercrap sell though. But for $43 i wasnt complaining.
Has any body else run this oil without any dramas?

                  Cheers

I once used the 'cheap' Castrol Magnetic that comes in the 5L containers for my SS. Apparently that is a mineral oil. 3000kms later it turned as black as the ace of spades... turned into sludge. Note: I had religiously filled up with Mobil 1 prior and the oil always remained clean.

HOWEVER, I was told that the Magnetic available in the 20L drums is a semi-synthetic variety... which is vastly different. I cannot comment as I won't be using the Magnetic product ever again.

I've convinced myself through my own experience that mineral oil is not
as good as synthetic or semi-synthetic.

                      oil viscosity

                      Hi guys
Being from a central qld climate I use a 20w 50 eng oil. I'm a fitter and i've looked into the gradings to see if this is the go. On a cool winters morning i get a bit of a rattle, But I know the dangers and are very concious of warm up and cool off time. I always recomend to make sure your oil is turbo compliant, I've found this to be the biggest killer of turbo's. What I've found in the past is to go down to your local cummins dealer and get fleetguard filters and valvoline oil. I a fairly sure that you'll save bulk cash on filters and oil, and rest assured all oil filters come out of the same factory's, just a different name on the side.

                        hi all,
suggest ONE thing use ONLY GENUINE FILTERS they are abetter quality/
made , and it removes another reason for toyota to knock back wty claims
and suggest using a 15w40 turbo diesel oil in all toyota diesels!!!!!!!!
rattling on start ups not good for engine life

Can someone tell me why the older diesel requires an oil change at 5,000 when the D4D oil change is 10,000 km?

Does the D4D use different oil than the older diesel? I would hate to think a mechanic/Toyota could use incorrect oil.

It's all really simple ...read the service handbook use an oil that meets or exceeds the API spec as indicated , use a viscosity range per the same book (15w-50 will be ok anywhere in Aust. there are no places that are really cold enough to require 5w) (THE BRAND OF OIL DOESN'T MATTER )use a brand name filter .
I have been servicing my own vehicle for 30+ years and have a mixed fleet of petrol and diesel (3xpetrol cars ,1xdiesel 4wd,1 petrol tractor ,1diesel tractor).
Have covered 500k , 380k ,76 k , 5k in the vehicles and have had no problems in fact none have ever had a rebuild ........The secret is frequent changes with a new oil filter every time . I use Valvoline of various types but have used Catrol in the past .

The D4D is a much cleaner running engine. The main thing to destroy diesel oil is not the oil breaking down but the contaminants in it such as moisture and un-burnt fuel. Obviously moisture will evaporate but because of the low volatility of diesel, once it's in the sump it's there for good. Obviously, the better controlled the fuel system, the longer the oil will last.
In comparison, a petrol engine will 'dirty' the oil with short runs but to an extent will burn some of the contaminants out with a long run due to petrol being more flammable. This is why LPG engines never have black engine oil.

Mobil Delvac MX and genuine filters all the way!

Having been right around Aus and had car serviced at Toyota dealers and ASKED EVERY one what oil brand they used, and got a different answer each time.
The truth is...... they use whatever they can buy in bulk at the cheapest price at the time.
After I got past the 3 years warranty period, I have done all mine myself and use Delo 400, and have supplied it when I have had service done elsewhere. Always use Toyota parts and so far have only had rear shocks replaced and the recall on master cylinder in 126,000k's.
Am still to find a dealer that wants to do valve servicing "AS PER BOOK" every 40,000k's.
They ALL just listen to them.
Starting to think that they don't know how it is done.
Also, the charges for the correct servicing IS NOT reduced to suit the MUCH LESS time spent on the "BOOK SERVICE"

                                Great vehicle, shit service..
