I ended up buying two off eBay, they are well constructed and a lot thicker material than the one I had in before, and 2 for 45 delivered isn't a bad thing!2008 120 Series 3lt D4D TD Prado GX, With to many bits to list :-) and more to come!!

I only just found out the filter is optional when Toyota wanted to charge me $71 for a new one at its service today. I ended up getting some aircon filter material for free and cutting it to size.

My late 04 V6 has mainly done highway driving but in July we did 7000km including Oodnadatta track etc. The car cleaned up well post the trip but I had noticed a dusty smell when a/c first turned on. I went to check the cabin filter last weekend - before doing any research - and was a bit shocked that the GXL did not have one fitted. Ended up buiyng a BOSCH branded filter on E-bay for $39 and it will arrive in the coming days.
I initially thought that the original may have been removed at a service, but I now understand that one never existed in the GXL.

Suitable cabin filters.
The genuine Toyota cabin filter retails around $62-$85 depending on which dealer you go to. A direct replacement is made by Westfil and is available from parts outlets at around $25.
Repco make a filter RCA 104P for around $25 but it is not the correct size. It could be used if the gap is filled in with tape but ensure that the tape will not be sucked into the fan. The best option is the Westfif WACF5231.

Repco make the FCF008 which sold for $35 a couple of yrs ago, and is the correct size. Its a bit thicker material so the air flow is a little reduced, but it does the job much better.Greg - 08 D4D Prado,
