Re: List of faults new grande

I reckon I could bet my gonads on the thumping issue !!!!! Bet its the rear tailshaft trying to slide on the yoke !!!!!!! This is also a known problem to toyota and has been since the 90 series, I have had a 97 grande and now a 01 grande both 90 series. The V6 was alot worse then the 01 diesel I have now virtually not there. Tell me if Im right in my description. You pull up at lights and come to a stop and then theres like a little thump ?? Tell me, when you release your foot off the brake to take off you some times get another thump and so on ?? Its the rear tail shafr AND TOYOTA know about it, they even do a replacment shaft, if they say they dont there full of shit. They have a modified one for the 120 series, they never did one for myn the 90 series, Some times they will pull the shaft out, pull it away from the yoke clean all the old grease and crap off it then paint this goldy coloured stuff on it (cant remember the name of it) then reasemble then put a small amount of grease in it and away you go BUT the thump will return you need to keep up the greasing on the slide yoke but not too much or it will not allow it to slide properly in/out Will get back to you about the exhaust noise in a sec phone ringing. Regard Steve By the way I worked for TOYOTA

Re: List of faults new grande

The noise on start up is the exhaust manifolds. They sound like they have an exhaust leak from the manifold, some worse then others. (I think it was late 06 they made a slight modifcation to stop it) Once the motor warms up its no where near as bad BUT if you have the window down and under fairly moderate throttle you will hear it fluttering, its the manifold, not leaking just the design of them. My mate had an 04 model it was very noticable, he now has a VX 06 model, still there but very very slight he also worked at Toyota for 20 years I was there just over 4. The vibration in the steering wheel a guess would be, tyres, balance, flat spot on tyres, I doubt there would be any issues with the rack not enough klms, generally the steering is smooth as. the only other option and possibly the cheapest is to see if you can get hold of another set of wheels (all 4) and wack on yours and take for a run. There might be some one on here close by to you that would be willing to wack on yours for 5 minutes just to try it out, might need some car stands to do it, or even swap from yours to his and vise sersa, take both for a run see if your wheels on his makes his do it and then see if yours is nice and smooth with his on ?????? Most of the problems would probably go away if you took it out on the road and gave it a decent spanking.

Good luck with the sale, should go for a good dollar as long as the buyer doesn't find this thread. ops:

                  Hi there guys
I am glad that there are still some happy owners of the 120-150 Prados out there but you are getting fewer, what with the cracking dash issues, the D4D fuel and engine issues, the diff , the drive shaft, the clutch, the fuel tank, Guys the list gos on and on.
But the sad thing is that most of the faults or issues happen under TOYOTA warranty AND THEY DONT CARE.
Yes its true my lemon has only done 22800kms in 4 years 8 months 21 days, We have six others to choose from so the nugget gets used the least,
My wife just picked up her new MAZDA 2 gekin today so toyota missed another $25000 ZOOM-ZOOM
O WHAT A FEELING, up you Toyota
                  regards Peter
                  I hope i havent got a lemon, now 4 1/2 years on i know i have.

We have Mazda 2 and love the car, but don't think Mazda give a sh!t, THEY R NO BETTER. Mazda aust brushed me off so after threatening the dealer that my car will be serviced elsewhere for the rest of its life they decided to cough up for $100 in parts to fix the issue.

Yes you are totaly correct they are all rat bags, i think you need to befrend a service manager or work there to get a frair go.
I recon we all have our own stories about our new toys some good some bad, maybe if we purchased used rather than new we would not care so much. But who wants to smell a dirty ashtray or touch a sticky steering wheel or look at the stain on the seat, this is why we buy new i gues we just have to put up with the crap that the dealer service centres dish up. :?

Had an 05 diesel Grande. It was a superb old girl. Had the wandering issues, you constantly had to input into the wheel and tyres didn't change that. Treated that car with kid gloves. The '07 D4D Grande we swapped it for has a superb motor, the wanders have gone and it has a better sound/satnav package. The gearbox is better and a little smarter but overall this one is just as good as our old Grande. It gets used for what it was built for, long distance exploring, off-roading and it does it in style. Maybe your mistake, Skycat, was buying the V6?

Same here. Have the 2003 diesel from new and have done 161,000 k's, and over 100,000 of that was with 2 1/2 tonne behind. Had bugger all go wrong with it, but then again, I expect to carry out a bit of servicing/repairs over that period and heavy work it has done. Never stopped or let me down .........yet..

Very low Ks, maybe the tyres have gone out of round sitting in the garage for so long!

I can understand Peter's frustration with Toyota. I just got my 09 120 V6 GLX back from a dealer's 30.000k service. I've commented on the last service that the belt tensioner pully bearing is about to fail and needs replacing. It get very noisy when the engine's hot. NOT REPLACED. There is some problem in the drive-line. Seems like either the auto box is slipping at low speed or the rear SLD is slipping at slow speed when corning. NOT RESOLVED ... DID'NT DO IT FOR US ( they only drove once around the block ).
This is not a dealer issue, it is a Toyota directive. I was vertually told by the service manager that .. IF IT DOESNT FALL APART IN OUR HANDS, OR IT'S NOT BLANTENTLY OBVIOUS, DONT LOOK FOR IT!
IMHO Toyota is trying to save money anywhere it can, avoid national recalls, and do only what they have to. They will lose customers. Sad to say, but this will be my last Toyota. The money spent was once worth the reputation and reliability ... but not now!
