  • Prado low range lever vibration

    Hi guys,
My 120 pre D4D 06 model has quite a vibration on the low range lever , it is quite a tight vibration not all over the show , but when you put your hand on the lever you can really feel it vibrate, haven't looked at what it might be , it is auto with 170 odd ks , never given me any trouble but it is a bit annoying when everyone says ,doesn't that vibration annoy you,
    Any suggestions boys
    Regards, Alan.i

the sticker on top that tells you the gear selection on mine has come a bit loose and rattles, I keep meaning to get around to re-glueing it, but is that possibly the cause of your frustration?

If you apply pressure with your finger, the rattle goes away...

No it is a definite vibration , you can hold the lever tight and cant really stop it but thanks anyway, will try and look at the mounts.

One of my early Pug 504s used to have the same sizzling vibration, especially between 78 and 81 mph. Solution? 82 mph! For times when that was not convenient an occy strap around it and onto the seat mounting worked a treat. That said they can all vibrate a bit there so perhaps a bit of lubrication of the linkages. Sounds normal to me, they all vibrate quite a lot.

            Cheers Andrew

              I would agree.

The diesels do vibrate & it's all connected str8 thru, so it's simple engine vibration.
Just depends if its normal or perhaps worse, again hard to say from here, likely normal.

As that lever is solid mounted to the actual gearbox/TC it will vibrate. The V6 does it too.
Consider it part of your " real 4wd".

Normal, had mine from new and now 200,000 k's and still the same, no noise just the vibration if you touch it, otherwise you wouldn't know about it.

As said normal but the issue is to avoid having anything touch it then it will not annoy. If something is resting up against it, even a mobile phone charger cord, it will make an annoying racket.

I have an auto petrol prado and the 4wd stick (the centre diff locker "HL" and low range selector "LL") vibrates a bunch. I think it does that because it's directly connected to the centre diff/transfer case and that moves a lot because of the drivetrain.

That's my theory/guess of why it does

Not only makes an annoying noise, it rips the paint / silver Finnish off as well :twisted:
