I'll be ringing accc on Monday Foxo don't worry. Toyota need to start pulling their finger out there arse. People buy Toyota based on reputation, quality etc and if Toyota told me we don't expect the dash to last past 10 years I'm sure myself along with others we would have looked else where. I've seen less troubles with Hyundai's for a shit load less money, and Hyundai use to have $12K drive away excels which are still chugging along.

I went to Llewellyn Toyota about 10 days ago and the young bloke in the service department said that I am wasting his time if the vehicle was over 10 years old and it wasn't worth going out to look at it.

If Toyota only expect their dashboards to last 10 years then they aren't complying with s54 of the Australian Consumer Law which provision is a statutory guarantee of acceptable quality for the purposes that they are commonly used for, acceptable in appearance and finish, free from defects, safe and DURABLE, all according to the standards of a 'reasonable consumer'.

Has anyone tried contacting the ACCC? My dash started cracking between 4 and 5 years of age and Toyota weren't interested, now they are interested and anyone with a Prado 120 bought before 2005 misses out, where is the fairness in this?

    Cheers,
    Foxo.

Maybe get 60 minutes to infiltrate the organisation and get to the truth of it.....on second thoughts they're probably too busy licking their wounds at the moment. On the other hand ACA , The Project or the various morning shows may want to have a go at a multinational company not looking after its responsibilities type of story.

So maybe we need to get the numbers of people with vehicles over 10 years old and have been rejected and approach lawyers and get a class action going. We would need to find out the costs and if it is a viable option. Mine is a 03 so I am way out by an additional 3 years.

The dealerships I've been to here in Adelaide are sticking to the 10year rule. One dealer even told me mine was only cosmetic, even though it crosses the instrument cluster and around the drivers' side vent. Whether it's cosmetic or not, it's still cracked......

Congratulations Wtrxprs007, my new dash went in last Thursday by the Dealership here in WA. Funny thing was Monday morning they sent me a text to advise the service is due soon - they haven't serviced my car for 5 about years (TLC O'Connor WA have been) and won't be for the next 5 years....

    Cheers Kim

I did similar to Steve and contacted dealerships mentioned on here who replaced dashes on 10+ yr vehicles.

So far none of them have admitted to this...

One of them admitted to replacing one over ten years old the others flat out said they have not replaced any thing over 10 years even though there posts are on here. I didn't mention any names, number plates etc I basically acted dumb like I didn't know much about the issue and just rang and asked what the procedure was for dash replacement as Ive heard conflicting stories about what is being replaced and what isn't based on year of build, chassis numbers etc. The one dealer that said they had replaced a dash said at first it was knocked back by Toyota so then the dealership actually lodged a MANUAL WARRANTY CLAIM and that's how they got it through. So I havn't given up YET. Im going to another dealer on my way home today and see what happens.
good luck Steve, I've had similar things to this. had a dealer admit to having it approved and telling me they thought mine would be approved. now they have since told me toyota has tightened in the last 2 weeks and have declined it again. even after manual warranty claim
