The ACL that you quote commenced in 2011 - it won't help those of us with 10+ year old vehicles, as has been mentioned here before. Prior to 2011 different rules applied.

How'd you find this out Steve?

In email, Llewellyn have told me they can't help 10+ yr cars, but nor would the even confirm they had fixed a 10+ yr old.

That is a fairly negative outlook, using your reasoning they should only be looking after cars that were built after 2011. How many cars have split dashboards that were built after January 2011?
The early cars had defective material, I hope that they have improved the quality since then so that the dashboards last.
Mine started splitting after 5 years which is pathetic and in 2008 they weren't interested. Morally they should be looking after all of us.

Not a negative outlook, just a fact. You mentioned Toyota aren't complying with the ACL, however the ACL that you quoted didn't commence until 2011, so won't assist us in getting our 10+ year vehicles repaired. My reasoning doesn't suggest they should only be looking after cars from 2011 - they should definitely repair our cars prior to 2011, but there is no point going after them on a claim they are not abiding by a section of a law when that law doesn't apply.

                • I'm going to kingswood Toyota today and also Penrith RMS on York Rd where they do the actual vehicle inspections and speak to one of the inspectors as to the cracks over the passengers airbag in dash and if it's a defect then I'll be asking to show me in their paperwork, pdf what ever they have documentation wise.

                  • .....And add me to the list of pi$$ed off customers.

I went to Llewellyn toyota in Ipswich at the start of Feb to make a dash claim. They pulled out the piece of paper and confirmed my VIN was on the list, even though our Prado is an Oct 05 model. They said "date doesn't matter as long as it is within VIN range". Said it's all good, put order in for dash from Japan and booked me in for fitment 2 months down the track. I thought everything would be good.

Fast forward to last week and the vehicle "does not meet the criteria" because it is over ten years old. Well, f#ck me you would think that VIN ranges and manufacture dates would be linked wouldn't you? How can a vehicle be in VIN range but too old? Answer me that toyota!

What got me though was the fact that the dealer didn't contact me at all before the fitting date to tell me it was now denied. They didn't even tell me when i dropped the car off. No, they waited until an hour later after I've handed over the keys and walked off up the street to have breakfast, to then ring me up and tell me they are not fitting it. Pi$$poor customer service! Gave me a phone number for toyota customer service to ring, which i did from the carpark, only to be told by them that it won't be done either. It seems toyota head office must have put the foot down on the 10-year limit now. Great way to treat your customers toyota.

so far, i think it feels the same as the old one but newer. Guess we'll see in 7 years if it holds up better or not
