Hi Folks, I am brand new to this forum, however heard about this cracked dash thing from a mate only yesterday and was told to follow it up pronto!
I own a 9/07 built D4D GLX Prado with 78,000klms on the clock. I actually sold a new Discovery to buy this car from the original owner only three years ago, and i'm totally chuffed with the car. Having said that, I too noticed fine cracks around the binnacle about a year ago that have spread like spiders webs all over the place. It is always garaged and kept in VGC. Having owned another Toyota this was a strange thing, as these cars are normally perfect - in my experience.
Anyway, had the Wife take the car to Ryde Toyota today. A few chaps came out with long faces and a camera to inspect it. They said to the Wife that they would be in contact tonight, which I short-circuited by calling them at 4pm. Head of service said this; "we had to have a look at the car and ensure that serving was Ok, and we had a look at the Klms and the condition of the car (which was perfect). With this, we sent off some pictures to H/O and they have in this instance approved the installation of a new dash under warranty. Wait 4 weeks to get the part ......"
I worded her up on the issue of age. This car is in it's 10th year, and they have honoured the claim, HOWEVER.... Toyota never told me of this recall but instead I had to hear of it word of mouth from a mate, and then they appeared to be basing the decision on whether to replace (or not) on metrics such as service records, condition, klms etc.
I am very happy we have a new dash ordered and ready to be installed, but I am also a little concerned that my Toyota dealer (where I have the car serviced) failed to tell me about this warranty replacement item, and that infact I had to find out by sheer luck and coincidence.
regards,
Adam
