I sent Toyota a message Monday explaining the crack in my dash and the issues we're all having with them. I was a little forward regarding going to the media if need be. I received a very nice email back today apologizing for the problem and have been directed to my local dealer to have it inspected. I rang and spoke to the service manager who really sounded like he didn't want to know about it. I've booked it in for an inspection Tuesday morning so we'll see how we go. I guess I'm going to have to go in there like a bull at a gate so this service manager does think he can bluff his way out of it.It's actually a very standard 03 GXL V6 Auto with Toyota Bullbar which has never seen dirt.
Wish list: 2 inch lift, A/T tyres, Dual battery set up, Safari Snorkle, ARB Bar with winch, lightforce spotties.
Planning on making up for all those years of bitumen only travel.

Thanks for that RadioNT. We sent one of our work Prados to Bridge this week (08 GXL D4D) for a service only to be told that it requires a new water pump and turbo at a cost of around $5,200. The car has done 110k. Very disappointed but have asked for them to consider an out of warranty claim. Hopefully they will be equally obliging.2018 GXL D4D auto, ARB bar, dual batteries, BFG A/T's, Dobinson/Bilstein suspension

I got my reply regarding my dash today. Toyota has come back and said they would pay half the replacement cost of a new dash pad. The dealer itself have offered to do the job free of charge which he said would make it around the $400 mark. It's actually a very standard 03 GXL V6 Auto with Toyota Bullbar which has never seen dirt.

Ive had my dash cracking photographed and inspected today by Castle Hill Toyota, they said being an 03 that they may not warrant any of it but they may consider 50/50.
See what Toyota say in a couple days, fingers crossed!Marc, 2003 Grande V6, Just a Bit of Stuff Done..........Work in progress.

Toyota are taking the piss and so are the dealers. Stick to your guns and you will get 100% on the dashboard and $300 for fitting.
Tried to message you but I get an error message saying your mailbox is full.

I just got a call from Castle Hill Toyota.
"Toyota have very graciously decided to pay 50% of parts only" as he put it.
This will cost me $1300 in total for half a dash and labour.........bugger, Im worried if I appeal they may tell me to go to buggery altogether and contribute nothing
I need some evidence, has anybody got anything I can use to help my case?Marc, 2003 Grande V6, Just a Bit of Stuff Done..........Work in progress.

I also had the cracked dashpad on my 03 replaced. It took 12 months and many e-mails and letters to Toyota, but eventually I did get a full refund for the cost of the dashpad and fitting. Dont give up, keep fighting. Toyota have come to the party for a lot of people, but now it seems they are trying to get out cheaply of a obviously manufacturing fault.

Hi all,
This seems to be an ongoing problem with toyotas, I remember replacing three dash boards
in Celica I once owned over the years.
Is it only Toyota that have this issue or have others got other makes of cars of similar age
with a similar problem?
Cheers

I have asked the dealer to appeal the decision for me.
They were not happy! A bit aggro about it actually and not really wanting to help.
They said that Toyota may now just completely withdraw the offer.
See what happens.
I rang Toyota Customer Care and they said once the claim is lodged with a dealer, you cannot go to another dealer, if you decline the offer via a dealer you cannot claim again for the same thing via another dealer.
You only get one shot at it.......hope they dont withdraw the offer altogetherMarc, 2003 Grande V6, Just a Bit of Stuff Done..........Work in progress.
