Hi Reward,
You will not be disappointed with the new D>4D the low and mid-band torque make for a nice driving vehicle, there are many posts on this subject.
Fuel consumption is good but if the price of Automotive diesel gets much higher then there could be an issue favoring the V6 petrol.
I am a bit biased as my last three 4wds have all been diesels, there are some members who have swung from petrol to diesel who I am sure will give you some good advice.

hey,
if you are worried about power for the diesel, dont be. we have just purchased a jayco expanda offroad caravan. approx19ft long. wieghs just under 2400kg when fully loaded. nearly to the prados limit. we live in calamvale in brisbane which is at the top of a hill and the prado finds it a breeze to get around there and has a SH** load of power over taking on the highway. i would go for diesel if you want to tow and trust me, dont worry about power or speed. wont be an issue-=WILSON=-

Well, BP Ultimate diesel has just hit $1.60 at my local BP station. Last I checked I think unleaded petrol was down around $1.40. Gas a mere 60 cents / liter. If the pricing trend of diesel continues this way then maybe the V6 petrol is worth a serious look. Has anyone done a gas conversion on the V6??? I find My D4D has bucketloads of power on the highway, and certainly around the city. On a recent camping trip we had it loaded to the hilt with gear and you couldn't tell as it responded exactly as when unloaded, not bad for a 4 Cylinder diesel. Not bad at all. I got a good 1500 k's out of my one and only fill up for that trip too.
Interestingly, in the lead up to Easter, the diesel price at My Local BP has gone up a good 10 cents. My Prado was my work truck I have a 90 series, RV6, petrol, and we used to get about 900k's out of a fill up (150liters), so about $230 a week. We sold it to some idiot (me) and bought a turbo diesel rodeo, and a VW caddy, we run both. That’s right BOTH, for less than the cost of the Prado. So IMO diesel is miles ahead in term of fuel economy, even with diesel being 10cents a litre more expensive.

Toyota Web site says:
GXL TRD Auto 9.3 Litres / 100km
GXL Petrol Auto 13.1 Litres / 100km
Fuel Prices on Friday 21/3/08 Easter from
http://www.exploroz.com/OntheRoad/FuelPrices/QLD.asp
NSW Diesel Average $1.593 x 9.3 = $14.81
NSW ULP Average $1.493 x 13.1 = $19.55
QLD Diesel Average $1.477 x 9.3 = $13.74
QLD ULP Average $1.387 x 13.1 = $18.17
With the Prado 180 l tanks you have more choice as to where you buy fuel.
E.g. The Shell web site shows diesel at Sutton Forest at $1.509
At a minimium it is $4 to $5 per 100 kms cheaper with the diesel for fuel
That's $800 to $1000 if you do 20000 kms per year
Diesel range about 1900 kms in theory
ULP range about 1300 kms in theory
Answer DIESEL for me and on my only fuel test so for got 9.1 litres/100kmsWhite GXL Auto D4D 1/08 Option Pack 1

Economics are still in favour of the diesel though even at 150K.

The initial outlay for the D4D and ongoing servicing costs concerns me a bit in that I thought we would have to travel more than 20-25K km a year to recoup the savings to come out in front so to speak. We would expect to be keeping the car for at least 8 years.
Can anyone post up any info to support or dismiss my concerns. Thanks
Mark.
