  • Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

    G' day Offdaze

I spoke with the service manager at the place I had mine done after your post and he is adamant that there is only one bolt in the inner side bracket.

Has anyone got a copy of the fitting instructions to check against or PM me.

I notice from the old mounting instructions that there was only one hole (stud) on the inner side of those brackets.

OK I have found out why I have not recieved the recall :!:
I have had the Prado since new and had it serviced at the same dealer.
Some 3 years ago I moved and changed my address with the dealer. All paper work from them shows the new address.
HOWEVER this does not change the address with Toyota Aust from where the recalls come :?
What else have I missed as the SOB's that bought my place have never redirected 1 letter.
This should now be changed  but now I have to wait while they order in the parts. Surely a major dealer would have some in stock-but NO!
After reading diesel69 post I think I'm heading to the same dealer.
OH BOY!! The smoke is starting to rise already

          FUMING
Just picked my Prado up from the local Toyo Dealer.
Booked it in 2 weeks ago, left it there at 7.30 this morning.
Got a phone call at 2.30. Yes mr Rhodes your car is affected by this recall ( DOH), however we cant do the work today. You will have to rebook it at a later date.
Just went in and ripped the service peanut behind the counter a new backside.
Now have to rebook somewhere else.
Won't name the dealer other than to say they are near Queen st Campbelltown.

I think we need to stick with the 15mm clearance gap as that is what the old fitting instructions state and no one seems to have a copy of the new bracket instructions to show if there has been a change in the clearances.

They are all the !@!@%@$#^%#@ SAME !!!!

Put mine in this morning for a 2 hour quoted bullbar recall at 8-30am waited until it came back at 1-00pm.
Took one look and saw the right hand side inner plastic guard hanging outside the mudguard.
Pointed it out to service chap and he said would take it straight back in to have fixed.
Jumped in and reversed straight into a huge steel beam and crunched the number plate holder and rear bumper, and door jambs slightly when closing.
Had it since new 2003 and 167,000 klm's on it and not one scratch and still looks (did) like new.

Rang them twice previously to putting it in and they said that they did one without any problems. Would love to see the other one..

Lucky I took approx 50 photo's this morning on the camera AND the phone.
Took photos of the damage and inner guard work before leaving it for repairs.

If ANY more shit or problems when returned I WILL NAME THE DEALER !!!

All I can suggest is that anyone getting ANY work done at ANY toyota dealer, would be to take photographs of your vehicle with the date stamp on the photo BEFORE leaving the dealership.

Have had 2 hours to cool down now so ringing them back and letting them know I will not accept any shit work done on repairs.

              Will upload photos later on.

Have tried ALL dealers within 100 klms of me and all the same, overfilled gearbox, diff's, transfer case and motor, quoted and charged for work not done by another, sump cover left off by another.

It needs the gap.......I can't post instructions but it needs the normal gap of 15mm+- 2mm.....remember I fit the stuff..... 8)

Hi Guys and my car in now back for the 4th time :xDropped off monday arvo, still waiting to pick it up Wednesday !! As it's still not aligned correct and also there is a rubbing noise comming from the right hand side(STILL) but the thing I do need to pass on to you all is ,that the two cross members that you first see when looking down at the new brackets ,when you open the bonnet, Have surface rust on them already !!!!!! (installed October 2010) Toyota service manager was not happy and waiting to hear from head office,to see what he needs to do with them,as I requested they replace them again?? I think it's cheap China Steal ,so be aware that your brackets are rust free, I will let you know how i went on .

                    Cheers tasdev
we are all here for a good time, not a long time,so enjoy it while you can..

I got mine changed yesterday, all looks good. The mounts are certainly a lot beefier!
It's not hard to allign it yourself either, I've had to do it a few times after hitting roo's. The Toyota bars are shit, it's because they are 3 piece. If you are going to hit something, make sure you hit it square in the middle....

The service desk chap. Felt sorry for him as he was going to make the "mechanic" do the job right, as it should not have been sent out finished, with the inner guards hanging outside the mudguard. (how would the "mechanic" feel if he went in for a colonoscopy and woke up with half his ring hanging out ?)

If the job had been done right I would have been on my way home as a happy customer.
Still haven't got it back and no news as to when it will be repaired.

Would be interesting to see the number of people that have "RECEIVED" a letter /notification from toyota on recalls.
There has been 2 on my 2003 Prado and still have never received a notification.
If not for this forum I would never have known !!! All my details have been on Toyota head orafice and dealer computers since bought new on 30-6-2003, as they know who you are when you book in, and that is right around Australia !!

Going over today to see what is happening with my damaged vehicle. Want to see visually an no phone crap.

Just got my 09 120 back from Toyota service after fitting the replacement mounting brackets. Dealer did an excellent job. Perfect fit, no damage, they even polished the bullbar. No complaints from me. I disconnected all the lighting and antennas for them, to make it a bit easier for them and to lessen any chance of damage. The new brackets certainly stiffen-up the bullbar, doesnt move about anywhere near as much as before.

I never got anything for mine, another mate with a Prado told me about it. I had to get the service department to search for me, even then it seemed like a struggle for them.....
