Prado sitting at Kingswood Toyota tonight reday for them to do bar tomorrow, told the bloke about the shotty workmanship I have read about on the web at other dealerships, told him not to cut the wires to my fog lights or shit will hit the fan, he asked why would you do that when they just unclip, I said well I dont know but I sujjest they keep the side cutters away from mine or I will be using them on some ones body parts, he laughed. I said dont want to return to having scratches on the flares or paintwork, and make sure the gap and alighnment is as good as it is now, yeah no worries mate, I said no problems whats your name ?? #%@^%$%## Thanks I'll see you tomorrow arvo........ my fingers are still crossed. Just had mine done today. Had similar words to Steve with the Service Adviser at the dealer. He said the same thing: They just unclip and it actually would take more time to cut and splice wires.

Well, I got mine back this arvo, and they seem to have done a satisfactory job. Plus they didn't cut any wires

I can see why they had to remove the bar. The side brackets are quite substantial (as are the replacement front ones. I couldn't see how they could do the job any other way.

Well I would have had mine done today had some one remebered to order the brackets last week when I booked it in last week (spare parts/service ??). So in place of getting the bar done I asked them to do the brakes instead while they had it there, Was a slight pulsation in the pedal which I think was coming from the rear discs as there was no shudder in the steering wheel. Was only minor but could feel it grab and let go etc when pulling up at lights at slow speed. so they machined all the discs front and back and brakes are nice and smooth now and was done under warranty so cost me nothing which was even better. They were very apologetic when then rang me to tell me they didnt have the new brackets in stock, so is rebooked in for the 5th of may when we get back from holidays....Other then the mishap with not ordering brackets there workmanship so far has been ok, no scratches, dents, marks on wheels etc, hope its the same with the bar. I will post either way to let people know. Regards Steve

booked the Prado (aka Mortimer) in for his 80k service and totally forgot to mention the bar check.
I turned up for the swervice, they were polite as usual and said 'yep 80k service and we'll check your Bar as well' when I picked him up, they explained the work they did and the parts were changed.

                • Took my car back for the 2nd time today. First time they forgot to reclip the splash guards which were damaged when later they rubbed on the tyres. They were apologetic and replaced the guards with new ones. Last weekend I heard a new rattle from the front and found the top bar of the bullbar rail was no longer attached to the bumper section. Looking underneath, I could see a bracket was missing and the evidence pointed to it falling off. Once again they were apologetic and promptly repaired it.

Pity it couldn't be done right the first time. Bottom line, check the bolts and clips.

                  • Well had the bar brackets done today and must say very impressed with the service I got. Dropped car off at 7.30 am and they rang me at 10.20am to tell me it was ready, The only thing I can pic is the bar is to the passengers side by about 3 mill, not worth complaining about to fix that, think Im been anal if I was to whinge for 3 mill. Anyway work was done by Penrith Toyota at Kingswood on the Great Western Highway, all up happy, no scratches, dents, inner guards all good, no bodgy wiring etc. Regards Steve

                    • Looks like mine's going back this Wed. Right hand side is rubbing on the flare and causing a buzzing noise when riding over bumps.

"Measure twice, cut once" doesn't seem to apply to auto companies......

Edit: I was checking the work today, and it appears they overlooked tightening some fasteners during the refit. Found a couple of bolts missing (in addition to the bar being misaligned).

Before I name the dealer, I'll see how they behave tomorrow when I take it back.

If I screwed up like this at work, I'd lose my job. I'm not impressed at all.

                      • Got Prado serviced today... they said that they'd look at the bullbar at the same time. Later told that they needed to do these separately, as they needed more time. Another trip to Toyota!

                        • Had mine done at Nunawading Toyota today, mechanics must have it down to a fine art now. They booked the car in for two days as it has a winch but managed to complete the work in one. Have gone over it with a fine tooth comb and can't find any thing wrong for a change

                          Cheers

                          • Howdy all,

Had my dad's prado done on Friday, after he bought a bullbar on ebay which did not have the revised brackets. So had 2 friends who worked in the Customer Experience Centre organise this for me at Stewart Toyota in Rockdale. Since the prado never had a bullbar fitted, they offered to fit the bullbar on the vehicle at no charge, provided I remove the front bumper and prepare the wiring loom for the parkers/indicators.

After the installation, had a quick inspection of the vehicle, and I must say, they did a great job! So props to the boys at Stewart Toyota. They will be getting a slab when I pick up the front fender liner kit (did not come with the bullbar).

                              • I just called to check if mine needed doing and I was told it hasnt had the recall yet, however I would need to bring it in forst to have it inspected to see if it needed to be done. If deemed it needed to be done then I would have to book it in again to be replaced.
Has anyone else had this request? I would have thought if there was a recall they would just replace it!!
its a pain in the arse for me to get it to the dealer twice.
