  • Just got a call from Southside Toyota in Brisbane. They won't fit any brackets as I have an aftermarket winch (Tigerz 11). They say it won't fit as the brackets are different sizes, are they telling the truth?

Has anyone else had this request? I would have thought if there was a recall they would just replace it!!
its a pain in the arse for me to get it to the dealer twice.
It's a recall to have them replaced - not inspected and maybe replaced. I just rang my local dealer when first aware of the issue through this forum and they booked me in straight away (even before my letter which came about 4 months later) - no pre inspection required. Told me they all had to be done anyway regardless of when you receive your "letter".

The brackets are definitley bigger, I don't have a winch so not sure about fitting the brackets with a winch

Cheers. Anyone with a winch able to comment?

Also, he said that only the main front bracket is changed, not any of the side support brackets (which are all broken of course). I'm sure I have read about people getting all the brackets changed out?

          • to me it looks like all brackets have been replaced, there is the mai bracket tat the front and then there is another arm that extends up to the side from the main bracket to just behind the fog light on the side of the bar.

            • OK, is the arm that goes up the side attached to the main front one? Maybe that's why he wouldnt replace it?

                • I have a tiger z 10000lb fitted to my car, the mounting bracket is bigger but
there is still plenty of room for the winch. The only thing the dealer stuffed up
is where the earth strap attaches to the winch. As with the old bracket the securing
bolt for the lug fowls the winch bracket, they could have either ground the bracket or
the bolt a little and all would have been well. Instead they just packed it with a couple
of cut washers. The first time I would have used the winch the pressure would have caused
the washers to crush putting all the weight onto the motor housing which would have most
                  likely caused it to fail!

                  Cheers

                    • Had my brackets replaced yesterday by the local stealership. The bar now has no gap under the passenger headlight and about 15mm gap under the drivers side. It's also out of centre too now, by about 12mm I would say, it was perfectly centred before with about 12mm clarance from the flares either side. More or less it looks like it's been in a minor accident.

I complained, and they said there was nothing they could do and that there the instructions said there should be a 22mm gap. Where the 22mm gap was supposed to be was not explained. Anyway it's going back next Tuesday and it had come back better than it is. There's no way I'm accepting a vehicle that comes back in worse condition that it arrived. There must be some way of adjusting it to fit better.

                      • Totally refused to do my bullbar. Service manager said '"it won't fit", rang Toyota australia and was told that because it wasn't a superwinch they wouldn't touch it. Basically told "too bad, so sad. Go buy a superwinch". Not happy.

                        • Can you elaborate what a superwinch is?

                              • Had my re-call done today. The bar now sits a little lower so the gap between the bar and the side panels has increased to about 10-15mm, whereas before it was basically flush.

Only fault was a couple of small scratches on one of the side panels. Pointed this out and the Service Manager said he'd arrange for the panel to be repaired/repainted - so happy with this even though it'll mean another trip to the dealership!

Will post so photos of the new mounts soon.
